CHICAGO— Chicago police are joining anti-gun violence groups in voicing concerns about a bill that would allow Illinois residents to get permits to carry concealed firearms.

Assistant police superintendent Jimmy Jackson says he's concerned about gaps in the mental health screening system for would-be gun owners. He spoke at a Chicago news conference held by the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

They could title the permit the "Second Amendment Rights Exercise Permit".

Is there a cap on the allowed pricing of basic God given rights permits?

>>> Chicago police concerned about conceal-carry bill <<<

Why, Philadelphia city is a gun free zone. Why doesn’t Chicago declare the same?

/Every night there are always news reporting several killed or injured by bullets (from non-existing guns).

Funny you bring this up because there was a lawsuit recently out of Champaign Illinois where someone sued the PD because they hired a cop who had been diagnosed with mental issues and as you can guess this cop went nuts on a call and beat some guy into a coma.

During the suit is was found by attorneys that the state of Illinois does not legally require any law enforcement agency to check the mental health records or any health records of any candidate for police officer. They are only required to pass a physical and take the MMPI test.

If they pass both they are in.

The Constitution was not written to please the cops.

It was written for the express purpose of protecting the citizens from an oppressive government and those who would impose such a government upon us.

So in reality, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are not really about free speech and the right to own firearms’ it is about how to constrain the desire of some men for power over their fellow man.

“Assistant police superintendent Jimmy Jackson”

Not so much a cop as a politician.

The cops don’t worry about this stuff, it’s the sheriffs and the cheifs. The politicians.

Well.... I know when I am really for looking for expertise on this issue I go to the guy who runs the Chicago police department which, last year, experienced 39 shootings in one weekend with 13 deaths.

He has the experience and is my go-to guy. </sarcasm/>

I read that the majority of Illinois sheriffs think that more law-abiding Americans should carry guns, to protect themselves from criminals.

I’m the chairman of the Illinois Center Right Coalition, a group that was founded, in Jan. 2003, to encourage all Illinois conservatives to cooperate, to recruit conservative candidates, donate to them, and find volunteers, for them. The steering committee has included about 40 people, including John Cox, Jim Oberweis, Pat O’Malley, Norm Hill, Mike Psak, David McAloon, Carl Segvich, Joe Morris, Gary Dunlap, and Jon Zahm. The ICRC site is www.illinoiscenterright.com. The ICRC will hold a meeting on Sat., May 7, 12:30-2:00, at Jumbo Buffet, a Chinese restaurant, at 900 N. Lake St., Aurora. We’ll discuss the April elections and whom we hope will run, in 2012. Each attendee is expected to buy lunch.

Of course the Chicago cops are worried. If citizens with CCW premits start blasting bad guys, the cops start taking pay cuts.

That is, many bad guys who are thugs and prey on the weak are going to get killed. When bad guys assume room temperature, they also stop paying certain Chicago cops to look the other way or help them in their criminal pursuits. Ergo, Chicago cops with oppose CCW because it threatens their income and also the “home boys” in da ‘hood.
