(Reuters) - A woman has been mauled to death by a pack of four pit bulls in the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, authorities said on Monday.

Margaret Salcedo, 48, was walking alone when the dogs, which had escaped from a fenced yard at a private home, attacked her at an intersection on Sunday afternoon, Truth or Consequences Police Chief Patrick Gallagher said.

Truth or Consequences? Sounds like Truth AND consequences.

The poor woman. Must’ve been terrifying and awful.

All animals are God’s creatures, and I’m reluctant to see any of God’s creatures destroyed. That said, all pit bulls should be killed, or kept in captivity. They are too dangerous to be around humans. We don’t let tigers roam the streets, why should we let pit bulls roam the streets?

New Mexico State Police officials were conferring with the local District Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

No, I'd say that the dead woman's estate should pay for the loss of these dogs. After all, the little bowsers were probably provoked.(\sarc)

I just can't imagine any city allowing anyone to keep these feral animals behind fences, in their yards, or anywhere around humans.

Arkansas go pounded (pardon the pun) by tornados last night. A call went out from a deputy that he had to kill 2 pitbulls that chased him to his car on the scanner I was listening to.

Many people are missing in the Vilonia area, 7 are dead from last nights storm.

Shortly after the dog shooting, the Faulkner County Fire Chief (Incident Commander) said to shoot and kill any loose pit bulls or other dangerous dogs that are loose since they are in a rescue mode now. Luckily Arkansas CARE and Humane society are on scene to secure pets that lost their homes.

I'm glad they shot the pit bulls though that decided to "tree" a deputy.

Given the proper care and training, tigers are perfectly harmless.

1) Large and/or aggressive breed of dog? Yes. Pit bulls.
2) Running loose, often >1 running loose? Yes. A pack of four out looking to raise hell.
3) Prior reports of running loose and/or aggression? Not reported.
4) Unrealistic expectation of gentleness in regards to the dog from dog owner, often despite #3 above? If they were where they could all break out and run loose - yes.

I support criminal charges. Four pit bulls who, if they broke out, would (and did) hunt down and kill a woman walking down the street - are a deadly weapon left unattended and unsecured by the two moron pit bull owners in question.

Hope the owners incur ‘consequences’. . .seemed ‘iffy’ by story as of writing. This is truly horrible and pathetic.

Very sad. What a horrible death.

IMO, pit bulls are time bombs waiting to go off.

Yeah, yeah, I know the mantra about it all depends on how the dog is raised. I know a nice suburban couple like that. Lovingly raised their pit bull from a small pup. At about a year old, the dog attacked the woman as she was sitting on the couch. The husband couldn’t get the dog to release and ended up having to shoot the dog. The dog’s jaws remained clamped on the woman’s arm - the fire department had to use a tool to pry the dog’s jaws apart.

If someone’s four collies or golden retrievers are at large and maul and kill someone they should be (the owner) held accountable. And I don’t think a dog wakes up one morning and becomes a killer, regardless of the breed (baring some weird health issue). The owners know when a dog has the potential to bite, much less kill or seriously injure someone.
Bottom line, leash laws, dogs need to be under owners control regardless of breed, owners need to be held accountable, and before they hurt someone, regardless of breed. Most pit bulls never bite anyone.
And no, I have golden retrievers, in case that was your next question, but even if you killed all pit bulls tomorrow, there would be another breed to take their place. The idiots who like to own some big bad dog would get a cane corso or mastiff or something, breed the nastiest thing they could find and suddenly we would be hearing an outcry about that breed. If we could ban stupid people it would help.
Oh, and prayers for the family of the poor woman. What an awful way to die.

The pit-bull breeder and druggies will say she ask for it. Shoot the owner and let the dogs eat him.
