If true, why did our founders make a distinction in the U.S. Constitution between “citizen” eligibility for Congress, and “natural born citizen” eligibility for the Presidency?

Because any citizen, including naturalized citizens (eg.Joseph Cao or Lincoln Diaz-Balart) can be congressmen but they could not become president.

Rush talked about Sarah and how he truly likes her... he complimented her and listed Sarah and Trump as the only two actually criticizing obama... and he defended Sarah against those trying to destroy her and her family. She has not announced yet and he was asked by a caller to name some conservatives that had not announced yet, that he liked and Rush then listed these three. The caller brought up West earlier in the call.

Exactly. Which is why immigrants are not eligible! Their children, who have been born here and spent there whole lives here, have no knowledge of the land of their parents except for what they’ve been told or maybe a visit or two, otoh, clearly are eligible. I have seen nothing codified in American law that prevents either Jindal or Rubio from being considered natural born. They would make a great ticket one day.

So he wants two non-NBCs for president.

It’s toast, it’s all toast.

Tree, watering, Jefferson. That’s all I have to say.

I'm with Rush. I think that Rubio could win it all!

I know a lot freepers on here don't agree, but most legal scholars believe that all it takes to be a “Natural Born Citizen” is to be born here.

“According to some Freepers around here, neither Bobby Jindal nor Marco Rubio are natural born citizens eligible for the presidency.”

They are cranks. Both Rubio and Jindhal were born in the USA and are as qualified as Spiro Agnew wrt NBC, and nobody raised an objection to Agnew as VP.

>> Mr. West ... JUST GOT THERE! They still need directios to find the men’s room!

I can’t deny that Allan West is new. On the other hand, in his grasp of the issues and ability to think on his feet he is head and shoulders above nearly *all* legislators in ability — not just freshmen.

Then, too, he has one sort of experience that I prize very much in a candidate — actual management and leadership experience.

I’d vote for Allan West for POTUS in a heartbeat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rush is kind of messing with people’s heads a bit.

Never forget, he’s an entertainer . . . yeah, he’s an opinion-shaper, too, but he also shapes the opinions of the opposition—you KNOW they listen to every word he says. If he sounds like he’s leaning towards somebody, Media Matters and the rest of them have to start up the smear factories and opposition research operations.

Maybe he’s trying to get them to chase their tails a bit—turn a bit of reverse-Alinsky chaos loose on them.

I’d be astonished if Rush actually came out and formally endorsed anybody much before this time next year . . . if he actually does “endorse” at all before somebody wins the Republican nomination.

The U.S. Constitution is law. The definition is historical and based on natural law.

You want further information, see: Natural Born Citizen, and go through the archives.

http://naturalborncitizen.wordpress.com/

There you will find the facts why Obama never, ever wants his citizenship records to be examined in a court of law.

A child of immigrants can become President only if the parents became citizens BEFORE he/she is born.

For example, Donald Trump’s mother was Scottish. She naturalized years before he was born. So The Donald is a ‘natural born citizen’ and eligible to serve as President.

Rubio was born in Miami. NBC.

What with half the people here not being able to hit a google button?

“Every human being born within the jurisdiction of the United States of parents not owing allegiance to any foreign sovereignty is, in the language of your Constitution itself, a natural born citizen.” (Cong. Globe, 39th, 1st Sess., 1291 (1866))

If whatever is written on his birth certificate is as
misspelled and miscapitalized as what you have written,
it won't matter. Reject. Fail. Back to the end of the line.

and Mr. West (as well as Mr. Rubio) JUST GOT THERE!

That's what makes them the most appealing. Some people think that career politicians are the answer - that the longer you spend in the DC Beltway, the more qualified you are. I don't.

I’m sorry, please show me chapter and verse of US law that prevents Rubio and Jindal (or Obama, for that matter) from being considered natural born citizens. This is silly. Of course children of foreign diplomats are not natural born citizens, and children of parents who illegally cross our borders or overstay their visas shouldn’t be considered natural born citizens, but there is absolutely reason to deny natural born citizenship to those who have come here legally and are on the path to citizenship.

Natural law doesn’t need no stinking statute. Can’t you read?

According to some Freepers around here, neither Bobby Jindal nor Marco Rubio are natural born citizens eligible for the presidency.

I believe that if one were to poll Freepers, the result would be that most of us agree that at the very minimum, a Natural Born Citizen is a citizen born to two (both) (Dos) 2 parents who are American citizens at the time of the candidate's birth. Furthermore, the birth must occur on American territory.

The parents may be Natural Born Citizens themselves, Native-Born Citizens, or Naturalized citizens. Unfortunately, Limbaugh doesn't seem to know ... or care ... much about this Constitutional requirement. But I forgive Rush. The SCOTUS doesn't seem to care much either.

Forget Rubio and Jindal as national candidates. Neither is a Natural Born Citizen. Both are playing it very coy on the subject, which does not speak well for either of them.

Maybe Obama has killed the Constitution once and for all. He never liked what he called the "negative restrictions" placed on the Federal Government.

We are now entering the "Awkward" FUBAR stage of the Republic's history. Too screwed up to fix. Too early to start shooting.
