Mark Steyn: The President’s Speech
NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE ^ | May 02, 2011 | Mark Steyn

I know, I know, if you can’t blog anything real nice it’s better not to blog at all, that’s my advice. Nevertheless:

Personally, I would have liked bin Laden’s death to have been announced by whatever lowest-level official was manning the night desk at the Department of Nondescript Bureaucrats, preferably reading it off the back of an envelope. But, if you’re going to put the head of state on TV to announce it himself, it would have been better to have been all brisk and businesslike – “At 0800 hours American military assets entered an address at 27b Jihadist Gardens, etc” – and finish off with a bit of Churchillian sober uplift about it not being the end or the beginning of the end but maybe the end of the beginning.

Instead, as Stephen Hunter, the novelist and Washington Post film critic, writes:

Any joy one might feel in the intelligence of our analysts and the bravery of our door kickers was significantly diminished by Obama’s malignant narcissism. The first part of the announcement, evoking 9/11, was vulgarly overwritten as per Obama’s view of himself as some kind of gifted orator. The adjective bloated compote was unworthy of the subject, banal and self-indulgent.

I was, I confess, a little stunned by the first part of the President’s speech. It was, as Mr Hunter says, overwritten. It managed to be both overwrought and generic – all that telepromptered overload about cloudless Tuesday mornings was not only tackily over-prettified but came over as unfelt and hand-me-down, like a course exercise in some third-rate creative-writing school’s Soaring Oratory class. Or, at any rate, as if they’d loaded up a first draft of September’s tenth anniversary speech into the machine. The official announcement was delayed for all this? If ever there was a moment for the commander-in-chief to be real, plainspoken and off his glassy-eyed follow-the-bouncing-ball routine, this was it. It’s as if nobody around him knows how to write except in the one tinny key.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy to rally round the flag, and rally round the President, but rally round this speech? No thanks.

Facts:

1)Obama has Muslim Brotherhood advisors on the White Hut staff:

ex-CIA Agent Reveals: “Muslim Brotherhood” has infiltrated Obama Administration
http://notalemming.wordpress.com/2011/02/03/ex-cia-agent-reveals-muslim-brotherhood-has-infiltrated-obama-administration/

2)Obama is falling in the polls, 42% approval rating and going South. Gas prices and inflation are soaring

3) Obama is being attacked on proving his place of birth, so successfully he has had to respond with his own propaganda initiative, and needs a distraction.

4) Obama is a grift artist, and lives by the campaign in which false images are presented to boost his popularity, this from the outset of his presidential campaign , which has not ceased with his inauguration.

5) Obama, by his conduct on Libya, the betrayal of allies of the USA on he WOT, Mubarack and Kadaffi, shows that he supports the Muslim Brotherhood and the spread of the World Wide Caliphate movement into North Africa and sub Saharan Africa.

Conclusion: I do not believe a thing that Obama does and says. If Osama Bin Laden is dead, I give credit to George W Bush who launched the Bin Laden hunt program years ago.But given the above stated facts, there is more than an even chance that his whole situation was staged to falsely END the hunt for Bin Laden, who may be even now lapsing into a comfortable anonymous retirement in a secret location.Taquiya,a major component of the Muslin Brotherhood that now is daily advising a traitorous president.Given Obamas thuggishness, his history of concealing all of his personal record, I objectively conclude that Bin Laden is alive and well and kicking back somewhere very safe. All the details of Osama Bin Ladens proof of death could easily have been staged. The body is so disfigured, that no visual ID can be made, and he was allegedly buried at sea. Sorry....no cigar. The body should have been brought to the USA and a very careful verification completed. It was not. Obama lies.

There is no true forensic independent verfication which should have been given as proof to NATO Allies.Indeed the body should have been handed over to NATO for verification of identity. Why was it not? I conclude Bin Laden was not killed.

I like the phrase “adjective-bloated compote.” I will look for an occasion to use it!

The local talkers on the radio station that follows Rush, claiming to be ‘republican’ dug out the speech President Bush gave when old Saddam was dug out of his pit, to contrast and compare against the teleprompter president.

Blind willing ignorance is well past this nation’s eyeballs. No wonder only another liberal like the ‘Donald’ can cause BamBamKennedy to get diaper rash. It use to be location, location, location, now with this bunch it is timing, timing, timing. Fortunately for US they are NOT the ones in charge of the time clock.

I agree. Obama looked and sounded like he was just reading a speech. There didn’t seem to be any personal connection.

As for the effect of the event on politics, 18 months is an eternity in politics. And frankly, a lot of time has passed since 9-11. Most Americans are going to look at this an say “Good, it’s about time.” and move on.

4) Obama is a grift artist, and lives by the campaign in which false images are presented to boost his popularity, this from the outset of his presidential campaign , which has not ceased with his inauguration.

This is now done with ease because the traitorous left has taken over our public schools and have made the education of our children a joke. No real history, no real English, and dumbing down mathematics and the sciences.

As our Founding Fathers noted, you can only have freedom and our form of Government if you have an educated people. Without that education they can be deceived and lead around by the nose.

I just caught a clip of his speech announcing OBL’s demise (Fox news). The One now is the most red, white and blue, patriotic s.o.b. on the planet. And, he’s deeply concerned all the way back to 9/11.

There’s so much self aggrandizement that I had to take insulin (and I’m not diabetic). The speech was all: “But-then-I-came-to-save-the day!” (see Mighty Mouse)

The radio bit this morning started with zer0 saying "At my direction..." followed soon by "...a small group of Americans..." First egotism, then no credit to the US military in general or to Navy Seals in particular. Who were these "Americans?" Members of Americorps or ACORN perhaps. After I heard the same bit of zer0's voice three times, I stopped listening to the radio news.

Congratulations Navy Seals and all support troops.

First, about that first half of Obama’s speech re nice cloudless Tuesday 9/11 stuff -

Obama’s talking to his base, either the left or the young, they had to be reminded of what happened almost 10 years ago. Unlike the rest of us who never forget nor forgive, those of his base only live in the ‘current’.

Secondly,
>>> it would have been better to have been all brisk and businesslike .... <<<

Obama don’t do ‘brisk and businesslike’, not in this case that he could be basking in our military men and women’s glory. No way Jose, um I mean Mark, you must be pulling my leg.

Steyn almost, almost, makes the “speech” listenable. Not enough though. As soon as Fox put TOTUS on, I clicked the DVR for a movie. How can anyone listen to him?
