Data Show Bin Laden Plots; C.I.A. Hid Near Raided House

WASHINGTON — After reviewing computer files and documents seized at the compound where Osama bin Laden was killed, American intelligence analysts have concluded that the chief of Al Qaeda played a direct role for years in plotting terror attacks from his hide-out in Abbottabad, Pakistan, United States officials said Thursday.

The C.I.A. had Bin Laden’s compound under surveillance for months before American commandos killed him in an assault on Monday, watching and photographing residents and visitors from a rented house nearby, according to several officials briefed on the operation.

-snip-

With his whereabouts and activities a mystery in recent years, many intelligence analysts and terrorism experts had concluded that he had been relegated to an inspirational figure with little role in current and future Qaeda operations.

It sounds bad till you think about the value it would have to keep Bin Laden contained while still gathering info.

Conservatives need to stop chasing the ball every time Obama throws it.

When I read that, I got a feeling I haven't felt since that awful 5 hrs in a private Finnish airport before finding someone who spoke English.

I hereby nominate cc for Post of the Day.

I’ve done some pretty extensive reading on Bernays, Goebbels, and Sunstein and I’ve learned to recognize the tactics.

We haven’t seen misdirection and deception on this scale since the rise of the 3rd reich.

Leave it to the spinmeister Zero to screw up the explanation.

He lies so much he cannot keep any story straight.

All he had to do was tell the truth, nobody would have cared.

Alas, that is why I despise him so.

This is Hilarious, funnier than MAD magazine.

Persdon who wrote the article is an imbecile. See this:

"The C.I.A. surveillance team in the rented house near Bin Laden’s hide-out took pains to avoid detection not only by the suspected Qaeda operatives they were watching but by Pakistani intelligence and the local police."

Stakeout in miliary garrison, a stone throw from elite military academy in dictatorship. You can not just "rent the house". Even if agents were Pashtun, they would stick out like a sore thumb in the close knit neighborhood where variation of accent could blow your cover. Neighbors would know. ISI would know. AQ would know. Only CIA would not.

Further:

"Observing from behind mirrored glass, C.I.A. officers used cameras with telephoto lenses and infrared imaging equipment to study the compound...."

OBL house had TINTED widows, and stakeout across the street had MIRRORED window(s)

Nothing suspicious to Paki ISI :-)

Even funnier:

"...and they used sensitive eavesdropping equipment to try to pick up voices from inside the house and to intercept cellphone calls..."

So we are led to believe that cellphones are eavesdropped by listening to voice in the room. Did the writer ever hears of NSA? More and more I tend to believe that BURN AFTER READING IS A DOCUMENTARY FILM. A league of morons has taken over.

Maybe his value was decreasing. Maybe they found out about a big attack that is in the works. Something caused the CIA/military to act now - I doubt Obama did it.

I’m inclined to think he’s dead or captured despite all the rumors and changes in media and government statements. Either way he’s gone and will be history if not already.

So let’s see, he “plotted” terror attacks (how’d that work out?), was broke, and basically hid in his room for the last six years.

LOL! "Elvis has left the building."

The lack of security surrounding him makes me wonder if we bought off his security.

I looked at the cables released on 4/25 and there’s nothing related. Everything released on the 25’th had to do with Nicaragua (I had no idea there was so much Muslim activity there... the PLO and others).

Such missions must be accomplished during moonless nights (i.e. Moon below horizon) so window of opportunity is every 25 or so days (2-3 moonless nights every month) Moonless nights were around May 1st. Allegedly, first mission day earlier was aborted.

I believe it was something leaked by Wikileaks (gitmo files)April 25 that triggered action, so the mission could not wait the next moonless night at the end of May.

Al Qaeda was composed of two councils. One was IIRC concerned with financing. The other with operations. It wasn’t a monarchy with just one head man, it was, shall we say, very “democratic.” Al Qaeda is an umbrella organization consisting of a number of independent terrorist groups most of which existed before al Qaeda was ever formed and which can exist after al Qaeda’s demise. each of those came with its own leadership and have seats on al Qaeda’s councils.
