Obama's Worst Enemy
The American Thinker ^ | May 09, 2011 | J.R. Dunn

Posted on 05/09/2011 1:11:09 AM PDT by Scanian

Obama's worst enemy is Obama, and his downfall will commence when voters awaken to the fact that many of his current "crises" -- and all the most critical ones -- are self-inflicted. They don't simply come out of nowhere, in the form of "events," unforeseen and random, but are generated through acts of omission or commission by none other than Obama himself. This creates an opening that must not be overlooked by the GOP candidate, whoever that may be.

The gas crisis is something that, in its impact on the daily life of voters, should have a serious effect on Obama's chances in 2012. So you'd expect some effort at a solution on his part. But look as long and hard as you like -- that is something you will not find.

What you will find is an insistence from Obama and all concerned that there's nothing to be done, that oil prices are a product of forces beyond the control of even the messiah, that "we can't drill our way out of the problem." This is nonsense. Faced with the same predicament in 2008, George W. Bush brought oil prices down simply by announcing that new drilling areas would be opened up. Prices dropped, an outcome that Obama would have us believe is impossible.

The problem lies in Obama's lack of understanding of how markets work. Obama -- and the economics wizards with whom he surrounds himself -- advocates a kind of knucklehead positivism, contending that commodities cannot have any effect on the market unless they're right there on the spot, that the price won't change a nickel unless a few million barrels are dropped off where you can look at them, touch them, and pop one open to see that yes, there's really oil inside.

Obama and crew want oil to cost more.

They feel we drive too much and therefore use an unfair share of the world’s energy resources. That increasing the cost of oil that American’s buy it will make our energy use “fairer” when compared to the rest of the world. Or in short, that we live too well and that our standard of living needs to be adjusted to properly align with the rest of the world - social justice and all...

Obama:  I Am My Sunshine!!!
To The Tune of You Are My Sunshine
by Squeeky Fromm

I am my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
I make ME happy
Most every day!!!
You’ll never know just
How much I love ME.
Please don’t take the spotlight away!!!

The other night when
The Seal team went in,
I watched the whole thing on TV.
I had my little
Toy gun and holster
Oh, the last word in AWESOME is ME!!!

I am my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
I make ME happy
Most every day!!!
You’ll never know just
How much I love ME.
Please don’t take the spotlight away!!!

And when they shot him
I nearly passed out.
I just kept thinking “Twenty Twelve.”
A headline story!!!
I’ll grab the glory!!!
This is sooo good for my self.

I am my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
I make ME happy
Most every day!!!
You’ll never know just
How much I love ME.
Please don’t take the spotlight away!!!

I think I will go
Up to Ground Zero
And hang around the N.Y.F.D.
My victory lap
Gives Trump a big SLAP!
Making this all about ME!!!

I am my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
I make ME happy
Most every day!!!
You’ll never know just
How much I love ME.
Please don’t take the spotlight away!!!

I’ll go pin medals
On all the SEAL guys.
Making sure cameras are everywhere.
I might regret it,
Sharing the credit.
But I guess, its only fair.

I am my sunshine.
My only sunshine
I make ME happy
Most every day!!!
You’ll never know just
How much I love ME
Please don’t take the spotlight away!!!

I can recall writing before her debate with Biden that Sarah Palin should plan to go before a serious forum, I suggested The National Press Club, and make a very serious speech on energy, the purpose of which was to grab the issue, indict Obama for his socialist, watermelon approach to energy, and establish a real claim for personal gravitas.

It is astonishing to me that Republicans in general have failed to articulate this issue in a serious, read "wonk-ish" presentation with the possible exception of Newt Gingrich who has made it a real issue and has, typically, come up with a bumper sticker, "drill here- drill now." Clearly Newt Gingrich has been way out in front of the other Republicans on this issue.

I suggested to the Republicans in the last election cycle that they solicit money from both energy producers and our energy consumers such as electric utilities were legally possible and encourage them to form 527s to take on Obama. Either the Republicans are smarter than I am or the American corporations were already intimidated by Obama and his crony capitalism- or fascist capitalism.

I do not understand why the public should not be conditioned to see the face of Barack Obama on the fuel pump every time they go to tank.

I do not understand why all of the jobs that have been lost in oilpatch and sent overseas are not rehearsed every time we have an unemployment report such as came out last week?

The missed opportunities are breathtaking.

Although this article states what every sane person believes is true, I think he has it 100% wrong. I am now totally convinced that our president is a pure Marxist. He is trying to destroy our economy by drying up gas and food sources; forcing a single-payer health care system (oh yeah, that’s what it really will be); taking over car companies; backing union thugs; etc. Go back over the past two years and look at events from a Marxist point of view and the guy must really think is the best leader we ever had.

You write like a historian who understand economics, or like an economist who understands history. Either way, thank you for your serious contribution to election thought. I hope one of our conservative candidates lurks on FR and reads your writing or has an adviser who does. I’m also astonished at how much is overlooked in the campaigns, and I don’t believe it’s over the heads of the average American.

"...Last week's drop was similar, but due to basic economic principles: the price of gas went up, people stopped driving so much, and by gosh by golly, the price went down..."

Well, that is their goal, or at least one of them.

"Evil Americans consume so much more than the rest of the world, so we have to cut back on their consumption. Too bad it is an imposition on their freedom as well, but it can't be helped..."

Agreed.

They are either incompetent or complicit.

Or both.

Right. We make the possible error of attributing this to his incompetence.

He said before being elected that he wanted to drive up energy costs. He said it outright with respect to coal, and with respect to every other energy source, implied it in every other word that he said.

Or its replaced by a duck.

And the RNC wonders why it is that scores of conservatives REFUSE to make any contributions to the RNC, instead contributing directly to candidates of THEIR OWN choice.

Yep. Barry is like the teen who murders his parents -- then begs for mercy from the court because he's an orphan.

'SERIES', As we all know, per Barry everything is, 'Bush's fault'(1).
He hasn't taken responsibility for one darn thing -- except -- that phony 'Jobs Saved' bullsheet.
(I spent $20.00 at WalMart and 'saved' 600 jobs!)(/s)

The problem lies in Obama's lack of understanding of how markets work.

The author is sort of clueless here.

Obama and his socialists understand very well how markets work...the whole point is that they WANT oil prices NOT to drop. Thus the increased regs and blockage of drilling.

Obama is still sitting on nearly a trillion dollar slush fund from unspent TARP and Stimulus money that hasn't been spent yet. Over the next year, we will see how he uses this to buy votes. My guess is that he will do everything he can to make moderates believe he is turning things around, when all he's doing is pushing created/fake money into a starved economy that won't realize how worthless the numbers are until after the election.

That’s a good point, especially on the TARP funds. What a lot of folks forget is that the original TARP loans have largely been paid off - so now it’s back in the hands of government. So you’re right, it could have significant slush potential.
