Gloria Cruz, 56, underwent brain surgery after a tumor was discovered when she suffered a stroke on March 7 and was rushed to the Royal Darwin Hospital in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Doctors told her husband Tani Cruz, 51, the case was “hopeless” and she would probably die within 48 hours following the surgery.

After two weeks, a breathing tube was inserted in Mrs Cruz's mouth and the ventilator was turned off. Hospital staff were stunned when she woke from her coma three days later.

“... no jokes about brain-dead wives please”

You know that is inevitable. Anyways, good for this couple and I hope she makes a full recovery. She seems to already have a rock (her husband) rooting for her.

Same thing happened to my wife’s grandma. Fell down the steps and hit her head on the concrete. Went into a comma. All the neurologists said she was gone. Moved her into a hospice unit. Family all said their goodbys.

A nurse came in one morning and asked (as they do every morning) How are you today Margarette?

To everyone’s amazement Margarette replied “I’m fine”.

Lived another 10 happy years.

I hope to never have to make a decision on a family member’s life like this. My wife always tells me that she wants me to pull the plug which I don’t think I could do. The power of prayer is very powerful. God willing she will make a full recovery.

HA HA! God wins.

So does the lady and her family and friends.

My dad did the same thing. He had a brain injury... we don’t know if it was a diabetic coma or a stroke, but regardless, he was in a “vegetative state” and “would never recover”. (do you realllllly want to feed him?.....yes)

Ten days later when I walked in and said “Hi dad”, he responded.

We had the best 2 years of relationship after that, for which I am grateful to God.

I can't imagine how you felt at that very moment.

Thank you for making me feel wonderful. I'll think of you often today.

My friend’s grandmother was in a coma for a couple of weeks and they were waiting for her to die. I was with my friend visiting her and as she was giving her water with a dropper she missed her mouth and it ran down her chin and she said, “Sorry, Grandma” and Grandma said, “That’s okay, everyone does it.”

She woke up and asked where her birthday cake was. She lived about a month after that.

I hope to never have to make a decision on a family member’s life like this.

I had to for my mother. She had been sick for a few years and was miserable. My dad was diagnosed with cancer and was supposed to have surgery, but the day before his surgery, mother got very sick and stopped breathing twice in the hospital so she was put on life support in ICU. Dad's surgery was put on hold until what-ever was going to happen to mother happened.

After 8 days on life support, the doc told me they had done everything they could and needed to remove the support. Dad was too sick to make the decision and my sister wouldn't. So it was up to me. The support was removed....and within an hour, mother was sitting up in a chair eating. She lived 2 1/2 more years, and died from something unrelated.

Wouldn’t dream of it. You could take out half of my wife’s brain and she’s still be twice as smart as most people I meet.

"I can't imagine how you felt at that very moment."

I just laughed at him and said "Oh, you're back!"

He and I hadn't had a really good relationship before. He was a very difficult man to get along with.... to put it mildly. When he came back he was a changed man. Everybody who worked with him after that told me how sweet he was... a word never applied to him before. I think he and Jesus did a little business while he was missing.
