An Illinois lawmaker says parents who have obese children should lose their state tax deduction.

"It's the parents' responsibility that have obese kids," said state Sen. Shane Cultra, R-Onarga. "Take the tax deduction away for parents that have obese kids."

Cultra has not introduced legislation to deny parents the $2,000 standard tax deduction, but he floated the idea Tuesday, when lawmakers took a shot at solving the state's obesity epidemic.

Yes, it is the PARENTS' responsibility, NOT the government's responsibility!

This is becoming outrageous, the way even some Republicans think that the government should be the one to control even your weight -- they are already controlling how much water you can use to shower and flush the toilet, what lightbulbs you can use, now this...

This is so stupid it makes ones brain spin. What is he going to carry a scale around and randomly weigh kids? I have an idea, let kids play. The schools have cut out PE, taken down play equipment, they can’t play tag or other running games.......good lord. With these ideas and polls saying 52% of the American people say the country is headed in the right direction, we truly are domed.

I personally know at least a dozen kids who were obese when they were young. None of them ate more than any other kids, but their metabolism was different. By the time ALL these kids were teenagers, they were normal weight. None of them went on a specific diet, but their body mechanics changed.

My own sister always had a weight problem, and still does. She ate what we ate, but her system was different. She spent a lifetime dieting, until finally, her husband told her to quit, that she was ruining her health, and he loves her the way she is. She's not morbidly obese, but enough that she would have to pay taxes on her fat. What a ridiculous statement this congresscritter made.

I think parents who “raise ignorant, stupid kids who become liberals” should have their taxes raised.

Amen. Why are fat people ‘costing’ the state 4 bil? Stop the cost there. Everyone is pussyfooting around this. Have we passed a law that prevents health insurance companies from charging extra for fat people problems? BLEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

On that basis, I could nominate the parents of any number of politicians for really large fines.

Prior to filing tax returns; all parents will be required to bring every child to the nearest IRS facility for weigh in.

Tax will be assessed based on every ounce over the prescribed IRS limit based on age.

This is why we will always be overburdened with taxes. They are the puppet masters, we are the puppets, taxes are the strings.

Folowing that theme we can have a tax on all the parents needing special ed in public school. Reading and math help costs lots of money. WE should also penalize and tax parents that have teens using drugs and needing taxpayer funded rehab. That costs states a fortune. The little chubby kid may be a very bright child . How about the line men on a high school football team? Do we tax parents of heavy females and not males? The best tax of all would be on stupid politicians.

Years ago when the Nanny State began zeroing in on smokers, many of us pointed out that the obese would be next on their hit list. This is now coming to pass. This is not about government’s concern for our children but about money and control over the lives of others.

Unfortunately his idea would hit the poorer people hardest. You can feed more meals on a bag of rice or a box of donuts then a bag of apples. Vegetables are very expensive

“Unfortunately his idea would hit the poorer people hardest.”
But, poor people don’t pay income taxes so they don’t need any deductions. A better idea would be to primary this tax loving rino control freak.

No, this won’t affect the poor parents of fat kids at all; they don’t pay taxes anyway. It’s ok for them to raise fat kids but anyone who pays taxes will be penalized.

The democrat party and RINOs like this turd are the analog to the German Nazi party. Their follow-up will be to tax or euthanize the debilitated and mentally ill just like their German predecessors.

And we were told we were crazy, that no such thing would ever happen, being fat was not a choice but smoking is, yada yada yada.

I hate saying I told you so............but
