McCain Proposes Indefinite Detention Without Trial for Citizens
new american ^ | 4/18/2010 | Thomas R. Eddlem

Posted on 05/15/2011 10:15:18 AM PDT by Nachum

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) has introduced a bill that would allow the President to imprison an unlimited number of American citizens (as well as foreigners) indefinitely without trial. Known as The Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010, or S. 3081, the bill authorizes the President to deny a detainee a trial by jury simply by designating that person an “enemy belligerent.”

The bill, which has eight cosponsors, explicitly names U.S. citizens as among those who can be detained indefinitely without trial:

An individual, including a citizen of the United States, determined to be an unprivileged enemy belligerent ... may be detained without criminal charges and without trial for the duration of hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners in which the individual has engaged, or which the individual has purposely and materially supported, consistent with the law of war and any authorization for the use of military force provided by Congress pertaining to such hostilities. [Emphasis added.]

Note that the Bush administration once said that the so-called “war on terror” would last a generation or more, and the U.S. military has officially classified many former Guantanamo detainees, such as England's Tipton Three, as having “returned to the battlefield” for merely granting an interview for the movie The Road to Guantanamo. Another five innocent Uighur (Ethnic Turkish Muslims from China) detainees had been listed as having “returned to the battlefield” after their release because their lawyer had written an op-ed protesting their prolonged detention without trial after they had been mistakenly picked up by a greedy bounty hunter. Writing an opinion or speaking an opinion against the party in power in Washington can — and already has — made some people “enemy belligerents.”

No, another one and much more colorful. He likes to tout himself as a “real-life Indiana Jones”.

That was quite a scathing article although some of the things he thought would be an issue should McCain become the nominee did not happen. However, I don’t have any problems believing the things he stated. McCain is a nasty, twisted individual and how in God’s name he ever became the nominee is beyond me. He has done more damage to our country than a democrat and he is still going strong...

Introducing that blatantly unconstitutional crap makes him an enemy belligerent in my book, so to paraphrase Spock in Star Trek V:

ARREST YOURSELF MR. MCCAIN!

McCain is one of the most damaging, most traitorous pieces of crap to have been inflicted upon America.

The thing about McCain being the Republican nominee is this: McCain threw the election. On purpose, it was clearly a rigged game. The reason he selected Sarah as a running mate was he thought she’d be insignificant. Boy, was he ever wrong - in fact, she almost drove Obongo under. And then, of course, they had to loot the treasury, an operation that is actually becoming clear and with audit trails popping up.

And this guy still got reelected. I did not know he had introduced this bill then, just reading about this right now. Why I fully expect he will shed his sheep's clothing and let the whole world see him as the wolf he really is. Oh and the lord McCain lovers ... b i t e me!

Why he is every bit as much anti-Constitution as BamBamKennedy... Seems it would not have matter much who got elected president in 2008.

Palin imo was chosen to grab the conservative vote. I find it difficult to believe that they thought she would be insignificant. She would not be insignificant just by the very fact that she was female; the first woman running mate since Ferro (sp). But I don’t think they anticipated the effect she did have. They completely underestimated that.

If you think the election was rigged, who was responsible? McCain was a ridiculously weak candidate and imo if anything was rigged, it was the primaries. He rolled over like a beached whale and conceded quickly on 11/4/08 which floored me. Especially since there were so many reports of fraud and intimidation. We’ll never know for sure...or maybe something will come out in the future. who knows.

Yes, well.. remember that she wasn’t all that well known nationally before the primaries. And the rigging was obvious in the debates - Obongo was really on both sides of the table.

No, I figure they flubbed what they had intended to do, and then the financial crisis became necessary to take the pressure off, and put Obongo over the top.

Oh, and who was responsible? The one responsible for the Obongo faction *was* Bill Clinton. If you look at the Obongo administration, it looks like a cut&paste of the old Clinton admin. But now, of course, the Kenyan is out of control and on his jihad, even though Clinton probably though he could control him..

One thing in that article that jumped out at me was:

Romney, who has no skeletons and has the proven competence to handle the economic disaster headed our way, would have a chance.

Now, that was written 2/2008. Did you have any idea (other than the usual mumbo jumbo we've been hearing about for years) that a crash was coming? What made Wheeler say that?

Lots of people were doing warnings, not just Wheeler. The general direction of things was pretty clear, and I have an idea that they had a trial balloon up with Chuckie Schumer trying to engineer a run on that bank (I forget which one, but isn’t he still supposed to be under FBI investigation?)

Thing is, what sent things tumbling was a couple of very distinct transactions that stood out like sore thumbs, and without which the crash would not have taken place.

This ‘financial’ crisis seems to have worked out for whomever won election 2008.

Hillary Clinton was working for and hoping for a Hoover economy all during the Bush presidency. And our guy lord McCain who took up residency on the Commerce committee announced to the world in a debate that he did not know about the economy....

For the life of me I cannot remember anything unusual at that time or hearing anything specific. I blame it on being busy and working. You seem to be very on top of what exactly went on. What transactions are you referring to?

I did a quick search and found nothing regarding the FBI investigation.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/feb/28/financial-terrorism-suspected-in-08-economic-crash/?page=all#pagebreak

In the second phase, the stock market collapsed by what the report called a “bear raid” from unidentified sources on Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers and other Wall Street firms.

This produced a complete collapse in credit availability and almost started a global depression,” Mr. Freeman said.

The report is surmising terrorism from outside parties, like islamists. Well, Obongo is one.

The two huge transactions are looked at in detail here on FR. Just can’t hit the proper search term...
