As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought. Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry's behalf. A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation's longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race -- and with Newt Gingrich's early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup -- there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill. According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation's first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: "Keep your powder dry." Perry's aides have long made it clear that the tough-talking Texan, who succeeded George W. Bush in Austin in 2000, would not seriously entertain the idea of mounting a White House run before the state's legislative session finishes at the end of this month. That date is now less than two weeks away, and the 2012 presidential field remains fluid.

Well, considering the field so far & the state with the best economy in these tough times.
Oh, and the fact there is no such thang as PerryCare.
"Better looking..Better record, Rick Perry for President."
Perry is a nice guy. But the way he comes across to me makes George Bush look like an intellectual by comparison.
Then spend money in every state except Illinois and Chicago in particular. I'd like to see him do the same nationally as the state legislature did this session. Pass voter picture ID legislation. The next issue should be the "Say no to sanctuary cities in Texas" bill.
You can opt out of the program. Besides the “conservative” legislature could still have voted it down.

“Parents who wish to opt out of the programme have to file an affidavit, giving religious or philosophical grounds for their objection. This is the same as for any other compulsory vaccination such as those against mumps and measles.”
It seems nobody on this thread has read Perry’s book “Fed Up.” I haven’t seen any references yet.
Every issue Texans on this thread have with him is a legitimate beef, but when you stand Perry up against Obama (or Romney or Newt,) it ain’t complicated.
I believe Chuck is a Texas resident, so Perry/Norris is a non-starter Constitutionally.
Someone that has a military background, charisma, a track record, speaks Spanish (state #1 business for 7 years). Won a state with a lot of Latinos. Several times.
It is soooo obvious!!!
He talks a good game but I have seen little in his actions to suggest he is conservative, let alone a small government free market tea party candidate.
I'm sorry that you buy the propaganda. They do NOT know the long term affects of Gardasil. ESPECIALLY when administered before puberty.
That doesn’t make him the “top Republican”.
You have to be well known, and thought of by the most people as the “top Republican”.
It really comes down to how famous you are as a Republican.
None of these people are famous enough.
Democrats look for “hot”, Republicans look for “top”.
He looks like a cross between John Edwards and a Televangelist in that pic.
The Constitution didn’t stop Obama. Let’s not worry about that stuff anymore. /s
When your record does the talking there really isn't much to say. Pawlenty? Gingrich? Santorum? Where's the beef. They can talk a good game but who among the "top Republicans" has Perry's record to run on? He even crushes Palin in that department.
My thought is Perry will step in and take the whole damn thing over simply on his record and back story.
All the better to kiss up to illegals with.
Now I understand why Obama is sitting in the WH. Ohhh, Obama's a black who cleans up good so I'm gonna vote for him!!! is no different than so many on this thread with their Ohhh, a Texas governor sounds so cool against the libs I'm gonna vote for him!!!
Yes, he's in it for another term but his opponent was Kay Bailey Hutchison. KBH of the let's open the law suits up for anyone who doesn't like the fence. She was so sure she had the governorship wrapped up because Perry had his sights on the POTUS that she sold her senate DC (VA) house and promised to step down (lie!). It's no wonder Perry won against her. Heck, my dog could have won against her.
What happened when people started to shout NO?
