NEW YORK - A law enforcement official and a union official say International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is under a suicide watch in jail.

Norman Seabrook heads New York City's corrections officer union. He told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Strauss-Kahn was under the watch at Rikers Island.

A law enforcement official confirmed that Strauss-Kahn was placed under watch after undergoing a mental health evaluation. The official spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of prisoners' medical information.

The official says the 62-year-old Strauss-Kahn did not try to harm himself. He was arrested Saturday in the alleged sex attack of a hotel maid and was held without bail on Monday.

French react to IMF arrest: Shock, anger at U.S. IMF chief jailed alone at Rikers Island

Strauss-Kahn spent an uneventful night at the Rikers Island complex after being denied bail Monday, corrections officials said.

In asking that he be kept behind bars on charges he tried to rape a hotel maid, prosecutors had warned that the wealthy banker might flee to France and put himself beyond the reach of U.S. law, like the filmmaker Roman Polanski.

Ahhhhhh, ditto. Must be hell to be in a suite that costs 3K a night and then beofre you can blink an eye y ou are in Rykers Island. Suicide watch? yeah right. Most elites have the money and the power but not a common thread of decency or common sense. Wonder what the woman he attacked is doing right now? Maybe SHE TOO is having to deal with things she did not bring on herself.

Sorry, struss kern or whatever your name is...you did the crime now you will do the time. Who cares?

They were absolutely right to deny bail. Murderer Ira Einhorn lived in France for 20 years before we finally got him back here.

Strauss-Kahn on suicide watch
Why would he do that? He said their sex was consensual didn't he?
Oh wait, he said he was having lunch with his daughter.
Oh wait, he said a political enemy paid the maid $1 million to fabricate the story.
Oh wait ...

He won’t kill himself, Clinton, Gore never did. It will just be brushed under the rug like their sexual assaults were and he will continue to live out his “I am God” fantasies through socialism/big government like most scum Rats like him do.

Or he promised the maid $1 million to do what he wanted, then she got mad when he told her the check would be in the mail?

That first wake-up had to be a real bitch when he realized it wasn't all just a bad dream.

I’ve noted how often these jail suicide watches fail.

I forgot about that POS. Locked the girl in the trunk and the frogs treated him as a hero. And let’s not forget cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal formerly known as Wesley Cook, because as we all know, when a person kills a cop, it’s time to join the religion of peace........ Made an honorary citizen of Paris. Was the cop P.O. Danny Faulkner made an honorary citizen of Paris? Hell no. Who cares if he was shot in the back and face by that fking animal in front of 5 witnesses, the cop killer must be honored.

Having gone this far, I doubt that the DA's office is going to sweep it under the rug, now. M. Strauss-Kahn is in very deep doo-doo here.

Will he kill himself? Perhaps, but not as long as he believes there is a chance he would be acquitted. It is only after the trial is over, and upon conviction and sentencing to a lengthy stretch in prison that he might do so. (He is no longer a young man, and a 10-20 year sentence would quite possibly mean dying behind bars...)

This is a problem with liberals in general. No matter where they are they feel as though the law does not apply to them (That is why when they write opinion pieces they alway use “you” and never us, I or other inclusive terms) and they are entilted.

He may claim "consent" or that he was set up...but the facts beg to differ.

Luxe hotels handle these guests with kid gloves. There's a protocol----the help does not freely enter rooms at will. Apparently maids are not allowed to enter rooms until they are specifically told the guest has departed.

The hotel first sends in a bellman to cart off dishes, empty bottles, and the like BEFORE the maids go in to clean.

The victim had been told by the bellman that the guest had left....and got the OK to enter the room. But when she walked in, DSK was apparently hiding in the bathroom and ran out to attack her when he heard her come in.

From what we now know, it looks like HE set her up for rape.

“Most elites have the money and the power but not a common thread of decency or common sense.”

Most elites? Would that include people like Rush or Palin?

Interesting.....I have no idea what the facts are of this case other than what has been reported....that is, the word of this maid's accusations.

Yeah, this guy is a Socialist pos, just the kind obama would support unless.....he' not towing the line.....

This guy is getting thrown under the bus too quickly.....something is up.

I'll stand back and watch to see what happens first.

As a Freeper posted earlier this week, this asshat French Commie was staying in a $3,000/night hotel, paid for by the IMF, which the US is the main contributor.

I paid for this moron Libtard Frog to cornhole a hotel maid?

WTF

This whole thing stink to high heaven. The "head" of the IMF, arguably a potentate in the scheme of things in today's world, does not get thrown into Riker's Island on the word of a third word maid.

Are we to believe there is somehow now justice in today's corrupt world?

This guy was either not towing the line or....

You really think a man that heads the IMF is going to be taken down by a lowly third world maid that shouts rape?

No, there is more going on here.
