AND NOW . . . amidst billowing clouds of fragrant, aromatic first- and second-hand premium cigar smoke. . . it is time for . . . that harmless, lovable little fuzz ball, the highly-trained broadcast specialist, having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have, from behind the golden EIB microphone, firmly ensconced in the prestigious Attila-the-Hun chair at the Limbaugh Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies, serving humanity simply by showing up, and he’s not retiring until every American agrees with him, do NOT doubt him, with shrieks of joy at the mere mention of his name (that’s Rush, for those in Rio Linda),the Mandarin of Talk Radio, with talent on loan from G-d, at the cutting-edge of societal evolution, with half his brain tied behind his back — just to make it fair, the all-knowing, all-caring, all-sensing, all-feeling, all-concerned Maha-Rushie! America’s anchorman, truth detector, and doctor of democracy. A Real Man, a living legend, a way of life. Commander in Chief of U.S. Operation Chaos. Chief Waga-Waga El Rushbo of the El Conservo Tribe. Chief of the Patriotism Police. Leader of the Conservative Movement. A Weapon of Mass Instruction. El Rushbo (a little Spanish lingo, there). He is the man who is running America (you know it and I know it). He knows the Democrats like every square inch of his glorious naked body. He is ready to do what he was born to do—that’s host. Get ready to what you were born to do—that’s listen (and post your comments on the Rush Limbaugh LIVE Radio Thread).

And it appears as though Newt is letting his true colors shine ever so brightly, now.

Long weekends are the best. Hope it dries up for you, too. Supposed to dry up here for Saturday and Sunday, but you never can tell.

Talking about how early on in Rush’s talk radio stuff, Newt was a Conservative Beacon, holding speaking sessions discussing policy, defending Reagan and taking Tip O’Neil to task. Rush just HAD to speak with him and did. Now he is conflicted because he is not sure what has happened to Newt.

I know exactly how you feel.

This last weekend, we got around an inch and a half of rain and we’re looking at two to three inches tonite through Saturday.

Ain’t so much rain?

When you’re talking about an area that has a TOTAL yearly rainfall average of 12 inches, this is almost Biblical.

Can’t decide if I should start looking for an old guy with a bunch of animals in an ark or not......

I remember what Rush was talking about,

Do you remember his lecture series? Marvelous!!

Renewing American Civilization

The so called “Clinton Surplus” came from Newt, Armey, and
Gramm

Newt WAS welfare reform, Bubba vetoed it three times, and was forced to sign it, between Newt and Gramm they would have gotten another veto overridden.

So, even though Newt seems to be putting his foot in his mouth lately, political newbie junkies need to study a little history.

LOL! We have more than 8 inches above normal rainfall so far this season. It must be Global Warming, or Bush’s fault; either one.

Speaking of which, our local radio station plays as a promo a clip from Hannity in which he is going through a litany of all the things that liberals are continually blaming on Bush. “If the dog bites, it’s Bush’s fault. If the bee stings, it’s Bush’s fault. If you get drunk, it’s not Jack Daniels’ or Budweiser’s fault, it’s Bush’s fault.”

“If you get pregnant, then it’s probably, . . . well, Bill Clinton’s fault.”

The problem is, while Newt was a firebrand; he was also a media/publicity hound, and doesn’t seem to have lost that desire, although he’s lost a lot of his conservative fire.

It sounds like Newt has fallen victim to the Beltway Disease, that turns erstwhile conservatives into mushy moderates.

Gingrich-Limbaugh Feud - from Jan 2008

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Yesterday on this program, one of the two monologues that people were talking about all day was the state of conservatism and where it's headed. I bounced off a comment made by Newt Gingrich on the George Stephanopoulos ABC show on Sunday in which he said that the Reagan era is over. Newt, of course, heard about it, sent me a note, "Hey, I want to come on and talk about this." He was on Fox & Friends this morning, and they portrayed this, Steve Doocy and his gang portrayed this as a feud between Newt Gingrich and me. I don't think it's a feud, ladies and gentlemen, but I want to talk to him about this. We never hear the libs say that the FDR era is over. We never hear the libs say that that the Teddy Roosevelt era is over. We never hear anybody say the Churchill era is over. We never hear that the Great Society is over and the New Deal era is over. We never hear that. The Dems don't do this to themselves. Newt clarified this morning, by the way, he said, "Look, I'm all for conservatism," but he didn't say this on Sunday. That's why I reacted. What he said today, we've got the audio. This is an exchange, a portion of it between Steve Doocy and Newt Gingrich about his comments, the Reagan era is over.

DOOCY: Some comments you made over the weekend I heard replayed on Rush Limbaugh yesterday. Is it true, sir, that you think that the Ronald Reagan era is over in America?

GINGRICH: That's just objectively a fact. I think if Governor Reagan were here today, and he were looking at where America should go, he wouldn't be saying, "Let's go back to 1980." He'd be saying, "Here are the solutions, here are the policies, here's what will carry us into the future." And I think we've watched these guys run around saying, "I'm like Reagan. I'm like Reagan." Reagan was a unique one-time personality whose great achievement in eliminating the Soviet empire was historic. Now we have a different world with a different set of problems. I don't think it can be, "Here's how you go back 28 years to reinvent Reagan." It's gotta be, "Here's how you apply conservatism to solve America's problems today."

RUSH: Wait a minute, Newt, how are you going to apply conservatism to today's problems when you just said it's dead? Reaganism is simply conservatism. That's all it is, and if the era of Reagan being over is objectively a fact, then conservatism's finished. Now, nobody's talking about going back to the 1980s and reliving the same set of policies. What we're talking about is applying principles, which is what Reagan did, to the existing problems of that era. Those policies, the premises of conservatism, work. They are timeless. It's not a scheme. It doesn't have to be bent, molded, and shaped. Tenets of conservatism survive throughout the ages, just like liberalism does. They're both philosophical ideas. For our side to run around saying, "Well, it's over," misses the whole point. Nobody's talking about bringing Reagan back the identical set of problems in 1980. We're talking about the principles of conservatism and applying them to today's problems, and not moderating them, not modifying these principles so they're a little liberal here, a little liberal here, maybe a little moderate over here. The problem that I have with Heritage taking this position years ago is that is seems eerily similar to what he proposed to Rush on Climate Change. “We need to present a conservative approach to topics such as these.”

Thanks for that....the pertinent quote, I think, is:
DOOCY: Is it true, sir, that you think that the Ronald Reagan era is over in America?

GINGRICH: That's just objectively a fact.

I am surprised Rush is keeping his feud with Gingrich about over his kick about “Era of Reagan is over”.

The “Era of Reagan” was over as soon as “kinder and gentler” George H.W. Bush stepped into the Oval Office. It was Gingrich who revived the principles and ideas of Reagan for a spell, from 1995 to 1998, despite Clinton taking the credit for most of his accomplishments and personal and political attacks from the media and both the left and the right.

As soon as Hastert and later “compassionate conservative” George W. Bush assumed power, not only the “Era of Reagan” was over, but his ideas and principles went out the window.

Anybody who was watching the political and economic developments in the U.S. in the last 20 years can’t be serious in maintaining that they were and are living in the “Era of Reagan”.

Political correctness or idolatry is no more attractive on the right than it is on the left. Today, Chinese no longer live in the “Era of Mao Tse-Tung” and Russians no longer live in the “Era of Lenin” than Americans live in the “Era of Reagan”.

We can strive for principles and ideas of Reagan and conservatism to be adapted to modern times and conditions, without insisting that we are living in the “Era of Reagan” - we are not. To hold the long-running grudge against Gingrich on this simple statement of truth or assigning to it the alternate meaning is just strange.

Were you listening to the beginning of the show, where Rush was addressing Newt claiming to be misquoted on the individual mandate, and that he misspoke with respect to the Ryan budget, since that was what started the entire discussion...
