A student who objected to prayer being part of Bastrop High School's 2011 graduation ceremonies enlisted the help of the American Civil Liberties Union. However, another student whose role was to call for a moment of silence during Friday's ceremony led the audience in prayer despite the ACLU objections.

They will look for an angle. Don’t think they will tolerate somebody spitting in their face. My guess is they will go after the principal for not tackling her and making her stop.

I was hoping that as part of her remarks, Laci told the ACLU to stuff it, but I guess that isn't very Christian of me.

Have you noticed how atheists are becoming like homosexuals - always in our faces and insisting that we do things their way. We need to fight back and just say no. We are still America and our country was built by God-fearing men and women and we will not back down!

The First Amendment prohibition on government endorsement of religion exists to protect the minority from the majority,

Dumb lawyer forgot about the part forbidding the gov't from the FREE exercise of religion.

"The First Amendment prohibition on government endorsement of religion exists to protect the minority from the majority,"

First of all, it's not "prohibition on government endorsement of religion", it's prohibition on government endorsing a particular Church (separation of church and state). Even more, the amendment says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...."

Secondly, for Pete's sakes, was a minority in any danger, when majority prayed to bless them all?!

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Civil disobedience is the best way to deal with stupid superintendents, judges and activist lawyers.

Only Liberals, Socialists and Communists can commit civil disobedience. If anyone from our side does it, that person is a troublemaker and possibly a criminal. [/sarc]

Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof

It's pretty stinking clear to me what they had in mind with this amendment. I don't know why lawyers, judges, and ACLU commie USA haters have any wiggle room around it.

"The First Amendment prohibition on government endorsement of religion exists to protect the minority from the majority," said Marjorie R. Esman, ACLU of Louisiana executive director. "Freedom of religion belongs to everyone, not just those whose views may be more popular than others."

Ah...well spoken Marjorie. Except for one small thing. In citing the First Amendment, you neglected the second part which shoots very large .50 caliber holes in your argument;

"...nor the free exercise thereof."

Abolish government “education” (“indoctrination” is more accurate). End of problem.

Of course the ACLU will engage in a lawsuit.

Perhaps the real question is if the ACLU will be sued for interfering with the free exercise of religion.

"Of course the ACLU will engage in a lawsuit."

Against whom? The school's ass is well covered, because they gave her specific instructions to "not" indulge in public prayer. That she chose to exercise HER right to a bit of "civil disobedience" let's them off the hook. And FIRMLY haves a loud, wet, raspberry to the ACLU.

My home state, BTW, and I'm darned proud of it (and her).

This, and the Mississippi incident on the Westboro Baptist Church's planned demonstration at a soldier's funeral shows that the grassroots is beginning to push back.

It takes more than that when it comes to the ACLU. They'd call out the police and the armed forces on anyone acting contrary to their intentions and you know it.

They are just waiting for the day when they can have Christian protestors shot down in cold blood.

They've done it before and they'll do it again UNLESS THEY ARE STOPPED NOW.

There simply are certain groups of people who get in everyone else’s face and demand submission/agenda approval:

Homosexuals

ACLUers

Vegans

Feminists

And especially........ MUSLIMS!

They all need to be told to get a life.

As an atheist my feelings on public prayer are as follows:

Meh, do it if you want to, it doesn’t make a difference.
