Military Appreciation Day in Silver Spring, MD, May 20, 2011

For the fourth straight year, the DC Chapter of Free Republic showed its appreciation of the military by recognizing the Recruiters at the Silver Spring( Maryland) Armed Forces Recruiting Station.
This Recruiting Station is a mile up Georgia Ave from the front gates of Walter Reed.

Mr and Mrs Trooprally, CindyTrueSupporter, RonGKirby and Kburi, presented Certificates of Appreciation to the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army recruiters. In addition, each service received a Manny and Olga’s gift card for pizzas, plus a M & O special pizza, sodas and cookies for their lunch break.

The Army, Marines and the Navy have our past Certificates of Appreciation hung on their walls and will add this year’s Certificate.

The Recruiting Station is in a new and attractive location in the center of Silver Spring. Because of the restaurants, shops, and open plaza with a fountain it draws young people , employees and shoppers.
From a small, somewhat shabby strip mall, next to a homeless shelter, it is now located on the second floor of this brand new open mall .
Well, these recruiters deserve it and they are hitting their recruiting goals.

On May 20, 2011, the U.S. Navy personnel were split between pulling duty at Andrews Air Force Base for the Air Show and a Commander’s Conference in Williamsburg.

We presented their Certificate of Appreciation and a Manny and Olga’s gift certificate, on May 25. Sharon, from San Antonio joined us.

Great report and the news of a new center is nice to hear...

Thank you for doing this each year. You represent us all well!

I stopped with certificates at our center and they were closed for a celebration/staff picnic. Family ate the brownies and drank the sodas but the certificates wait for me to go there again!

I didn’t hear anything in advance this year but decided to do it again myself. They have been shocked in past years.

We call ahead (or better, stop by and introduce yourself first)to let them know who we are and why we are coming.

That way they will be there.
Go with someone who can take a photo.

Best

Kburi

Thanks for the info. There’s an armed forces recruiting center near my home and in the same mall as a Starbucks, so everytime I go by, I get a gift card from Starbucks and take it over to the fine men and women manning the recruitment center. They’re so gracious. I’m honored to be in the same room with them, even if only for a few moments.

It’s really too far away to go twice and they know me from past years...Who knew they would have a picnic?

I’ll get back there soon.
