it appears McConnell and Reid are doing their best to eliminate obstacles to reauthorization before today's vote.

It's always great when the top Republicans are willing to work closely with the top Democrats to push the Democrat agenda. [/s]

Were I a Congresscritter, I would vote against renewing the overarching bill based on a simple political observation: anything that the Dims support while in power and has the GOP support when they are in power, is more than likely not good for the citizens of this country. If it only gets support because it empowers your party, it is wrong.

Calling these people the Progressive Republican that they are is much more damaging than epithet of RINO. It more effectively shows their political mindset.

The Patriot Act should die in its entirety, and I hope that Sen. Paul and others vote to end it.

A government that is unwilling to fight a war to victory overseas (and I include Bush as well as Obama here) has NO justification to demand war powers at home.

Rnad had been filibustering like Mr. Deeds Goes to Washington, trying to let the whole Patriot Act lapse, but both Reid and Republicans headed him off at the pass. So then he came up with the Amendments to protect gun owners and now he's tied them up in knots, for now.

Please call these useless pieces of crap and protect your rights!

Contact Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at (202) 224-2541 and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl at (202) 224-4521 right away.

I just sent McConnell a message asking him to please quit the Republican Party and become a Democrat. I think we’d all be happier if he did. Contact him here:

Is his seat up for reelction in 2012? I don’t know what more we can do. These RINO idiots are hurting us badly.

We hardly ever hear from Mitch McConnell and when we do it's always sounds like Rino/Rat crap.
The man is totally useless to conservatives because he's not one.

Most curious. A cross between a RINO and a chinless turtle.

Sigh. What to do when leaders of your own party, which should be upholding freedom, fold like a cheap paper napkin?

Primaries. That’s what.

Mitch McConnell’s history:

McConnell has supported several gun control measures put forth by Democrats, including the 1991 Crime Bill S.1241 (see U.S. Senate Roll Call Vote here) sponsored by then senator Joseph Biden, that instituted a national waiting period for handgun purchases as well as a federal ban on semi-automatic firearms.[8] In 1998, McConnell voted for Barbara Boxer’s Trigger Lock Amendment 3230 (see U.S. Senate Roll Call Vote here), which required the purchase of a trigger lock with the sale of each handgun. Firearms dealers who do not comply to force the private transaction are guilty of a federal crime and face revocation of their Federal Firearms License and civil fines up to $10,000 for each omission.

In addition to regulation of fire arms, McConnell has also supported arms control initiatives such as the START I treaty, which he voted for in 1992, describing it as “an outstanding agreement”.[9][10]

McConnell is also well known for his opposition to campaign finance regulation on First Amendment grounds. He argues that regulations reduce participation in political campaigns and protect incumbents from competition.[11] He spearheaded the movement against the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (known since 1995 as the “McCain–Feingold bill” and from 1989–1994 as the “Boren–Mitchell bill”), calling it “neither fair, nor balanced, nor constitutional.”[12] His opposition to the bill culminated in the 2003 Supreme Court case McConnell v. Federal Election Commission and the 2009 Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.

In August 2007 McConnell introduced the Protect America Act of 2007, which allowed the National Security Agency to monitor telephone and electronic communications of suspected terrorists inside and outside the United States without obtaining a warrant.
