~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Creech Air Force Base, Nevada

Creech Air Force Base, formerly known as Indian Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field, is a United States Air Force base located one mile north of the central business district of Indian Springs, in Clark County, Nevada, United States. It is about 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas and 45 miles northwest of Nellis Air Force Base. It is named in honor of General Wilbur L. “Bill” Creech, known as the "Father of the Thunderbirds".

The host unit is the 432d Wing, which has six operational squadrons, one maintenance squadron, and MQ-9 Reapers and MQ-1 Predators.

Along with being the aerial demonstration training site for the Thunderbirds, the base plays a major role in the ongoing War on Terror. The base is home to the MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle which is used regularly in Afghanistan and Iraq. The base is also home to the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battlelab.

Creech Air Force Base, Nev., is the home to the "Hunters" of the 432d Wing and 432d Air Expeditionary Wing, and the Joint Unmanned Aircraft System Center of Excellence. The base also hosts the operations of the 556th Test and Evaluation Squadron, 99th Ground Combat Training Squadron, and 98th Southern Ranges Support Squadron.

The shifting of a global remotely piloted aviation mission to Creech AFB to include aircrew training, and the supporting, directing, and coordination of combat sorties halfway across the world has continued to the present. On November 9, 2006, the Air Force activated the 42d Attack Squadron at Creech to operate the next stage in remotely piloted aircraft development, the MQ-9 Reaper.

The service also provided for direct leadership of these missions on May 1, 2007, with the activation of the 432d Wing at Creech. Finally, the full spectrum of these operations was formally recognized when the 432d Air Expeditionary Wing was activated at Creech on May 15, 2008.

The 432d Wing, 432d Air Expeditionary Wing "Hunters" consists of combat-ready Airmen who fly remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) in direct support to the joint forces warfighter. The RPA systems provide real-time reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision attack against fixed and time-critical targets. The Hunters conduct RPA initial qualification training for aircrew, intelligence, weather, and maintenance personnel.

Was watching the Memorial Day concert on PBS (which is probably the one good show PBS broadcasts all year) and was inspired to search some of the performances which were quite moving...

Kris Allen did “God Bless the USA” while hugging service members: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLICV-yUNRo

This was done for British Remembrance Day but I think it is a very appropriate and moving song for Memorial Day:

Wanted to share these but wasn’t sure where to post...this seemed like as good a place as any.

Blessed Memorial Days to all Vets and those currently serving!

The ribs, collar bone, & shoulder blade are still tender.

The CAT scan on Thurs and the Neurologist appointment Friday of next week should clear me of any damage from the concussion.

Welcome to the Canteen, SMCC1...I looked all over and couldn’t find the concert on my tv schedule. I did DVR what was called the 2011 Memorial Day concert that came on at 3am....something is amiss. Hopefully I can find it somewhere on the net.

Thank you for these video links. The troops will love them.
