Suspect's immigration status surfaces in HPD officer's death (I guess someone asked)
Houston Chronicle ^ | May 30, 2011 | Anita Hassan and Robert Stanton

The suspect accused of driving his vehicle through a police barricade and killing a Houston police officer may be an illegal immigrant, records show.

Johoan Rodriguez, 26, charged with the intoxicated manslaughter of Houston officer Kevin Will, has an immigration detainer placed in his arrest records after investigators found "reason to believe" he was not a citizen.

It’s not clear exactly what evidence prompted the detainer.

Typically, a detainer is placed when a individual’s fingerprints surface in federal immigration databases. However, fingerprints of lawful immigrants are also kept in the same database.

"No further info can be released at this time," said Carl Rusnok, a Dallas spokesman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a detainer had been placed on Rodriguez.

Early Sunday, Rodriguez flew past flashing lights as he was traveling eastbound on the North Loop when his car struck Will near the Yale exit.

The 38-year-old officer with the Houston Police Department was collecting details of a hit-and-run accident along Loop 610 North when, police say, a driver, apparently drunk, ignored the flashing lights of patrol cars, steered his Volkswagen around a makeshift barrier set up to block the freeway, and slammed into Will, killing him at the scene.

The officer leaves behind a pregnant wife and two stepchildren, a 10-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl.

"Officer Will and other witnesses at the scene who were inside the barriers had no expectation that someone would drive around that or drive through that," said Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland.

As the vehicle sped through the barrier, Will had the presence of mind to yell at the witness he was interviewing to "get out of the way," the chief said...

To the left these are small crimes to be ignored in the greater quest for votes. I’m not sure theres a crime large enough to turn the left from their mindless drive for votes.

These incidents are heart-breaking.

That was my reaction yesterday when this story was first reported.

Now I'm mad.

I have a niece who's been in a nursing home the last 10 years of her life after being T-boned in an intersection by an illegal alien who was drunk and ran the red light. He fled the scene but was later arrested (had been arrested for DWI more than once before). He was tried and sentenced to 7 years and then deported. No doubt he is back in the U.S. driving drunk. My niece? She'll be confined to a hospital bed (fed through a feeding tube) the rest of her life.

True enough and judging from the "comments" at the news source, they don't like being told that.

We’ve had two people in our community killed in moving vehicle accidents involving people many suspect were illegal aliens.

Our Police Chief is Hispanic and originally from California. I don’t say that with malice, just stating facts. The two individuals who walked away, both Hispanic, were not held due to an ongoing investigation. Both individuals fled the state quickly, and by the time witnesses and forensic evidence implicated the two men in crimes, they were both gone with no forwarding addresses.

I want our immigration laws enforced. We don’t need new immigration laws; it means squat if they’re not enforced.

You have my sincerest sympathy concerning your daughter. How cruel, that the victim endures incarceration and the criminal is free as a bird.

All I want is something simple, like justice. We’ll have to wait intil Obama is no longer in office.

Sure there is. Only it is unspeakable.

My fear the past two years is that the Democratic Party will decide that a live Obama is too much of a deficit to their political future, and that a dead black martyr is much more beneficial in the short run.

Do you understand what I mean?

My fear in all this is that it will be set up, like McVey was set-up by Saddam Hussein, so that another group will be fingered as the culprits. The Tea Party and Conservatives are too obvious; Hispanics are the alternative.

Like I said: unspeakable, and just exactly the kind of thing Soros is good at doing.

Exactly. My niece would not be living in a nursing home if that repeat drunk driver had been deported and our borders were secured. She was an innocent target who will pay (along with her family) the rest of her life because the laws were not enforced.

"My brother is a real good hard working person," she wrote. "He didn’t drink. We don’t know what really happened, but my mom is suffering for this situation ... We all are sorry for the officer’s family. I have no words."

Every time I hear/read about an illegal immigrant working hard, all I can think is how hard the two worked to jimmy the lock on my back door before they broke the glass, reached through, and unlocked the door. Every time I hear/read about another American being killed, I think how lucky I was that day. This poor man and his family. What a shame he won't be there for the birth of his son.

Houston TX has become a cesspool. Former Mayor Bill White (who lost badly to Rick Perry in the last election for Gov.) promoted the city to become a full blown sanctuary city for illegal aliens. The lesbian Mayor who took White’s place is now pushing for Houston to become another San Fransansicko.

Cincinatus’ Wife.... That is terrible regarding your niece. I can only hope that the medical field will derive a method of bringing her back to concioness and ability to communicate.

My niece works in Houston and her family of husband and two young daughters live only a few miles away. It would be devastating to our family if any of them were injured because of an action by one of the NUMEROUS illegal aliens in the area.

Mayors and City Councils of sanctuary cities should be free game for law suits for damages, injuries and deaths caused by illegal aliens.

Just reading the other day about a woman in Iran who was blinded by a man who threw acid in her eyes ~ the Iranian government is letting an "eye for an eye" sort of punishment take place.

She gets to have acid poured in his eyes.

It really sounds barbaric but so many of the illegals involved in these attacks have no money or other resources so the costs of injuries to their victims ends up being paid by the public.

Keeping them locked up just means free meals and a room with Spanish language TV.

What to do, what to do?

Well, they do look pretty much like their cousins in Iran ~ so maybe it would be appropriate to step back to an earlier time in the search for appropriate and educational punishments.

Gee! Could it be that he didn’t speak English (or none at all)?

I guess they brought in Dick Tracy or inspector Clouseau to grill the culprit and extract the correct diagnosis...He was a WetBack!

Our Police Chief is Hispanic

More evidence of the Leftist madness known as Affirmative Action.

The most corrupt, criminal police forces on Earth are those in the remnant Spanish empire countries: Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela and pretty much the rest of South and Central America.

Why would anyone in their right mind hire men whose culture and ancestry bind them to that tradition?

I mean, would you hire the D student in a class? Or tell him he's got a long way to go to prove himself before anyone trusts him with the keys to the building?

If you want to live in Mexico, hire the Mexicans....if that's what you want.

I suspect no one wants that though, except for a few. And they are not nice people...
