Marilyn Monroe photos found at garage sale still a mystery
Cnn Entertainment ^ | May 28 2011 | Alan Duke

Photographer Anton Fury's hobby of searching weekend garage sales for collectible toys led him to dozens of apparently unpublished photos of a young Marilyn Monroe. Fury has allowed CNN to publish the images just days before what would have been Monroe's 85th birthday. They apparently were taken during a photo session before she was well known. "I found an envelope of negatives, didn't know what they were, but I realized they were old," Fury said. He paid $2 for the folder, which contained two envelopes of black-and-white negatives.

Wow what a find. I’m still loading the story. That pic is really very good. I’ve never seen any that were particularly appealing (but..I’m not a guy either) but this one is attractive.

Just don’t take it to the Pawn Stars guys.

Actually, a number of otherwise clueless sellers have benefitted immensely from "taking it to the Pawn Stars guys" who have had the item professionally appraised and determined that it's much more valuable that the owner could have imagined.

The trick is knowing that the Pawn Star guys, having accurately assessed its worth, will only buy it for a fraction of its value [after all, they have to make a profit, doncha know!]. So, if you don't want to sell it for a fraction of its value, take the appraisal as a freebee, thank them very much and go sell it yourself.

The second envelope was filled with about 70 negatives of actress Jayne Mansfield.

Wow. Two bucks for an envelope full of Marilyn Monroe photos and another of 70 photos of Jayne Mansfield. How did this ever end up at a garage sale? There will be a story here someday.
