President Barack Obama famously won the 2008 election on a wave of support from America's youth. But any hopes the 49-year-old had of keeping down with the kids appear to have faded - his support from young people is rapidly waning, a poll has found. And for a man known for his 'jacket off' casual style the reason for this slump may be particularly hurtful - students are abandoning the President because they do not think he is cool anymore, it has been claimed.
Obama won because he stole large shares of older people's votes as well, research suggests. In Virginia, for example, he reached 55 per cent of seniors, whereas John McCain wooed just 45 per cent. The Obama campaign denied that the President had lost his support from young people, pointing out that its summer organiser programme has had more applications this year than ever before.
According to the National Journal's Ronald Brownstein report, President Obama has dramatically lost support from young people - and particularly young white people - in America since 2008. His approval rating among those aged 18 to 29 is currently at 56 per cent - a huge fall of ten points since the 2008 exit polls.

I think they would be happy eating mom's cooking. The problem is, mom has had to switch to cheaper cuts of meat and lower quality ingredients because of rising food prices exponentially increased by skyrocketing fuel costs.
Four years later, a lot of us had degrees and no job with which to use those degrees. Most of us wised up.

Student loan payments have to be made on time as soon as you graduate, whether you have a job or not. A harsh reality in the Jimmy Carter era. A harsh reality still in the ObaMao era.
Thankfully, this “student loan forgiveness” crap never passed...

What kind of jobs could these people get anyway? Government jobs? I think it’s another reason to cut the government budget but will Republicans do it? I’m not holding my breath.
You’re right that is a scary proposition.
Fortunately, I was able to put both my kids through college without loans. They got to start fresh.
Both worked very hard in college and have good jobs.
Coolness, or a perceived lack of it, is no reason to vote for or against a candidate. Made that point to my college-age niece & her idiot Obama T-shirt wearin’ friends back in ‘08.

Watch for Obama to propose a change to that law... He doesn't actually have to do it, only suggest that we should. All the little college kiddies & recent grads will fall for it.

In an ideal world, the government would get out of the student loan business completely and it would be privatized. Lenders would give a great interest rate to someone majoring in nursing, mechanical engineering or something with good employment prospects. They would have to charge a premium interest rate for someone majoring in ethnic or gender studies or any other of the pseudo sciences.
Every College Republican chapter in America should put up a tote board in their Student Union building recording rounds of golf played while in office, Bush vs. Obama.
