What conclusions are to be drawn about the state of Middle East peacemaking from the extraordinary spectacle of the adversarial encounter between President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and their several major adversarial addresses in the second half of May?
The spectacle did not bring an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement any closer. Indeed, Netanyahu's address to the U.S. Congress, no less than Congress's reaction to that speech, effectively buried the Middle East peace process for good. For what America's solons were jumping up and down to applaud so wildly as they pandered pathetically to the Israel lobby was Netanyahu's rejection of a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, thus endorsing his determination to maintain permanently Israel's colonial project in the West Bank.
If Netanyahu succeeds in his objective, these members of Congress will be able to take credit for an Israeli apartheid regime that former Prime Ministers Ehud Barak, Ariel Sharon, and Ehud Olmert predicted would be the inescapable consequence of policies the congressmen cheered and promised to continue to support as generously as they have in the past.
Unfortunately, it is an outcome made more likely by Obama's insistence that a United Nations resolution could never bring about Palestinian statehood. He was wrong about that. That the United Nations can create a state was affirmed and celebrated not by enemies of Israel but in Israel's own Declaration of Independence of 1948. It is the U.N. Partition Resolution of 1947, not negotiations between the Jews and Arabs of Palestine, that is cited in that declaration as having brought about the state of Israel and the source of its legitimacy.

The number of lies this mook can cram into a single sentence boggles the mind.
I am offended! Who do I sue?
So instead of clinging to his mindless idolatry of the Muslims Fascists, this author might want to wake up to who he is bed with, the mass murdering heirs of Hitler and the Nazis.
Peace between Palestine and Israel will not happen until Russia, Iran etc attack, they are destroyed, then watch for a peace treaty. Then all hell breaks loose.
I’m sure the author makes an annual field trip to mecca.
Where’s the Barf Alert? Siegman is a lefty kapo(n), a Carterite anti-Israel POS; he gushed great gobs of slobber over Carter’s ‘Israel-is-an-apartheid-state’ screed, embarrassing all thinking persons.
What a sicko. The arabs with the most rights in the ME is Israel. It is the fakestinians who seek a Judenrein fakestinian state. Everything with these leftists is completely 180 degrees wrong.
No kidding. I almost fell out of my chair.
Fess up. You read that in a Book, didn't you?
“...as they pandered pathetically to the Israel lobby...”
But it’s OK to pander pathetically to the Palestinian lobby, I assume...
Indeed, Netanyahu's address to the U.S. Congress, no less than Congress's reaction to that speech, effectively buried the Middle East peace process for good.
...before I gave it up as hopeless.
“Netanyahu’s address to the U.S. Congress, no less than Congress’s reaction to that speech, effectively buried the Middle East peace process for good.”
I’ll tell you again, Henry Siegman, because you obviously don’t know it: There will be NO peace until the Prince Of Peace arrives and straightens out the enemies of peace - those who are for war.
Wouldnt it be great to have few in Congress who had also? I watch all the hand wringing and thinking that there is going to be some Shangri-La Democracy in Egypt, Libya and other ME countries and all they would have to do is know prophecy to know what is really going to happen. Isaiah 19 is interesting watching the goings on in Egypt.

The author is correct, the UN can "create" a state, should the US opt not to use it's security council veto. And if we do, then there's no state. And if there's a state devoted to the destruction of another member state, Israel, the UN will have to expel one or the other. Of course, everyone will ignore it all.
We're not at this point in history because of Bibi or Obama, they're largely irrelevant. We're here because of decades of Arabic incitement against the Jews, more specifically propaganda foisted on the West Bank and Gaza after palestinians were invented in the early 60s. Intensified post Oslo, when the west began funding a der Sturmer media.
Change that enviornment, in a generation or two you can look for peace. Israel can't make peace with rabid Jewhaters whose goal is their destruction.
If the UN expelled member states simply for trying to destroy Israel, then why were Egypt, Syria, Jordan, et al. not expelled in 1967 or 1973?
UN cheats, the Charter means nothing.
It’s disturbing to read such anti-semitic crap on freerepublic.
So let them declare whatever they declare. Israel ought to quit and evict the PA.
Siegman is my father’s second cousin once removed. That so many good relatives died in the Shoah yet people like Seigman survived is a sick joke at times. He was born in Germany in 1930, so I don’t think the term “Kapo” is a appropriate, as it can be misunderstood.
Seigman is not an antisemite. He is a leftist, a member of the grievance squad, and a globalist. He is also a former executive director at the American Jewish Committee. Of course the AJC has been anti-Zionist for decades.
