The annual Bilderberg Conference will convene this weekend, thus throwing the Internet into a tizzy. One hundred forty or so of the world’s most powerful persons or their proxies, titans from industry, banking, media and a host of nongovernmental organizations, will covertly huddle at a ritzy Swiss resort.

The Bilderbergers ostensibly meet each year to brainstorm about the day’s great international issues. Their discussions remain off the record so that politicians and others in sensitive roles can speak candidly without risking “gotcha” exposés.

Conspiracy theorists believe the Bilderbergers control the course of world events. That through crisis and uncertainty they steer society’s great developments with an ultimate goal of establishing a New World Order. Naturally led by them, of course.

Yes, and isn't it amazing that a few old, dead, slave-owning(sic) white guys understood the problem so well 250 years ago to develop an document that defined a government immune to precisely that corruption.

I would disagree on the whole.

There exist far too many that believe that they have the answer to the worlds every problem (ref. National Debt) and far too many that believe the world has the answer to their every problem.

And as long as the attendees insist on that, the conspiracy theories will flourish. Most people think that a gathering of all these leaders and influential people and what they have to say is a newsworthy story.

As long as they want everything "without attribution", they should stop whining and accept the predictable reaction to their secrecy.

Think the ivory tower elites weren't working through media to brainwash the public, for example, to keep Bill Clinton in power?

Think no one conspired to turn the public off Bush after he surged forward in public opinion after 9/11?

The social engineers do, as you say, stumble around and fail fairly often...but many of their plans DO succeed as well.

Good point. The true conspiracies are probably those theories that governments and their medias will rarely touch let alone give credibility by publishing counter opinions.

The US media rarely mentioned the NWO or Bilderbergs except as a scoffing example of the irrationality of those who would believe in conspiracies. Anyone in power that discussed it was marginalized as eccentric or worse.

If the Bilderbergs have nothing to hide, why then are they hiding?

Supposedly on the agenda is limiting Internet Freedom for this meeting of the New World Order folks [Bilderbergers].

For me, this is ironic, as the founder of Facebook I believe was on the list from the United States.
