Jonathan Pollard’s father is in serious condition, according to Pollard’s wife Esther. “Emergency phone call from Jonathan today,” Esther Pollard in an email message Saturday night. “He was crying. He was crying so much it was hard to understand. Now I am crying too.”
“He told me he got an emergency phone call from his brother Harvey to tell him that his Dad is dying... they do not know if he will even make it through the day.
“This was totally unexpected and a great shock.
“Dad was in fairly good health. He is old but in very good shape. So what happened? He got a bladder infection. They gave him antibiotics for the infection, but something went wrong and his whole body went into some kind of septic shock. All his organs are shutting down.
“Harvey, Jonathan's brother, arranged with the prison to allow Jonathan to have an emergency phone call with his Dad today. Dad was too weak to speak. Harvey held the phone for him. Jonathan told his Dad how much he loves him and that he has always loved him and always will. He spoke with his Dad to thank him for all he taught him and for the wonderful years they had together. He blessed his father to go in peace and surrounded by the good deeds he has done all his life.

I don’t think he really cared who got the information he stole; the voters will decide what is important to them.
The traitor is lucky he got a phone call. Prison’s a bitch - by design. He needs to stay there and rot for his crimes.

NO. He has been sentenced to LIFE IN PRISON.
When he completes that sentence, he will have been punished sufficiently.
Meanwhile, he should thank whatever deity it is that he actually believes in that he gets to serve out his sentence in a medium security facility, rather than Florence Supermax.
Condee Rice wanted massive spying on Israel. Should we show such putative spies zero mercy, too? Treason means, per the US Constitution, making common cause with the US’ enemies, taking up arms against the US, or giving aid and comfort to its enemies. It’s undeniable that Pollard sold some secrets to the Soviet Union, which constituted treason. But the Soviet Union is no more, and the damage he did there is now moot. His other acts of espionage were for a friend of the US, and one of them saved the world from the threat of a nuclear Saddam Hussein. The one should cancel the other, imho. Now go ahead and flame me. I’ve got things to do.
Based on what has been reported, and to me even more substantiated by the repeated refusals of cia/dod heads under administrations of both parties to countenance any thought of leniency for pollard (clinton wanted to release him as part of his peace deal, and apparently the secdef and cia head both said they would resign if he did), makes me think he did indeed pass on info to israel that they then gave raw to the soviets, with the catastrophic consequences for us intelligence assets.
POS Pollard was a natural-born citizen of these United States. He accepted a position of trust in the service of these United States, his native land.
He then betrayed his native land to one or more foreign powers.
He's a traitor and a spy. He can rot in his medium security prison for the duration of his sentence.
An intelligence agent is not a spy. An intelligence agent works for his country, to gain information about foreign countries. A spy sells out his own country to foreign countries. The former is honourable and patriotic. The latter dishonest and a traitor. Pollard is a spy; a liar and a traitor.
Folks who have trouble figuring out their allegiance and loyalty should not be granted access to nationally sensitive information, and should stay the hell out of the military, intelligence, and diplomatic communities.

I am sure his being Jewish and the fact some of the information was sold to Israel has no bearing on your belief, since he also sold or was in the process of securing information for South Africa and Red China.
