Beijing battling protest fires on all fronts

From: The Times

June 15, 2011 12:00AM

AN eruption of protests throughout China has sent armoured vehicles into town centres, prompted an internet blackout by the government and left thousands across the country blogging about "crazy" violence on the streets.

The summer surge of protests, which flared in the southern industrial hub of Zengcheng over the weekend, has been linked to a range of frustrations with modern China - furies that have drawn the government into crackdowns on activism and massive increases in the domestic security budget.

More than 1000 migrant workers went on the rampage in Zengcheng after a pregnant street vendor in her 20s was roughed up by security guards. Such incidents, while distressing, are not uncommon. Witnesses said that the centre of town was bedlam, with smashed windows, blazing police vehicles and teargas explosions as rioters hurled missiles at an official building. One bank worker blogged that the Bank of China had ordered an immediate halt to all ATM transactions.

Hmm... maybe Helicopter Bernank’s Weimar Inflation will destroy the Chi-Commies before it destroys us.

Gonna be a close call though...

Close by ***, can you say WWIII?

NO Country in the history of this World has ever escaped let alone pay off the debt we have incured....it's impossible.

The old joke is “If you owe the bank a million dollars the bank owns you, but if you owe the bank a billion dollars you own the bank.”

But we’ll never let the Chi-Commies collect from the Fed. Defaulting would be grave, but what is the rest of the world gonna do? Stop trading with us?

I wish someone could come along and explain how we're going to pay back a 14+ trillion dollar debt...depending on who listen to 50-200 trillion in unfunded liabilities...it cannot be done imo.

I'd love to hear it, it would take some points off of my blood pressure.

No, it's not going to be pretty. We may end up back in the pre-money age of barter (including bartering labor, sex, whatever, for protection from marauding gangs).

But if the world does enter a new era of barbarism, we will be the first ones out of it for a number of reasons:

There are still a number of Americans who remember what self-reliance is like. They will form farms and defensible areas in a still very productive Midwest.

The Europeans will return to fighting amongst themselves: French against Germans against Brits, etc.

The Chinese will retrench behind the great wall and their history of self-sacrifice and self-abnegation - besides, they have a rapidly depopulating Russian Siberia right at their doorsteps to plunder if necessary.

Lastly, the Muslim Arabs will immediately sink back into the nomad sands with no one to buy their oil - they lack even the rudiments of science, agriculture or even culture for that matter to keep them together if the fit hits hits the shan.

Yes, it will be bad. But the US (with Australia and maybe New Zealand) are best equipped to deal with the coming apocalypse.

OK, in this context, I’ll give you a speculation. After China goes through a long wrenching civil war we refuse to recognize the new government’s claims on our debt. ;^)

The 121 male to 100 female birth ratio is going to get ugly for China.

I know that not being able to access cash would make me feel more calm and relaxed about the situation....

“They will form farms and defensible areas in a still very productive Midwest.”

I follow your post generally, and broadly agree if it comes to that pass. I just want to point out that most Red State areas will be mostly surviveable. Cities would need a cordon sanitaire around them, but most Read State areas, Midwest, West, and South, will do . . . much better, in a general meltdown, than Blue State regions.

Won’t. Be. Pretty.
