The Obama administration told CNSNews.com Thursday that it is currently in the process of procuring solar panels to place on the White House roof but it cannot discuss the progress on the project because of "sensitivities." “The solar installations on the residence will be part of a Department of Energy project to demonstrate American solar energy technology and know-how,” DOE Spokeswoman Jen Stutsman told CNSNews.com in an e-mail. “The project will show that American solar technology is available, reliable, and ready to install in homes throughout the country.”

They’re trying to figure out how to run the radar and computerized AA and missile systems on the WH roof using solar panels.

I would think the American people should be informed of this.

Can’t tell anyone. There would be a run on those tacky lawn lights and illuminated frogs. Obumo has to launder chinese solar cell purchases thru Big Lots.

Its so easy to implement solar power that they can’t figure out how to do it with all the resources of the Department of Energy.

Can I suggest we add DoE to our list of agencies to be defunded if we ever get someone in office with a clue and some grit...?

I kinda believe...after actually standing at the front and back of the WH...that the roof space is not that big. They likely have highly ambitious plans on how many panels are required, and then you figure up the HVAC units...the radar (as you refer to), and the protective systems...and it’s pretty dang crowded up there. Then toss three or four guys with weapons and a spot for the President to sneak up and take a smoke, and that roof is crowded.

If you just wrote down the amount of power the building consumes....I doubt that you could do anything other than heat the water in the place.

As in a $500 2 square yard solar panel to operate one light bulb.

That’s your sensitivity. Sensitive to the smell of Bullcarp.

This is a joke, right?

Incredible that these people would be allowed to deface the White House in such a fashion.

I would call this an impeachable offense.

Around 2008, I worked at Camp Lejeune and there was a plan and funding to put solar panels on top of some of the large warehouses. It made sense, as they would get continuous sun on top of very large buildings with very flat roofs. However, I talked to the project officer and he told that that it was a waste of money. He did the math, estimated electricity savings versus intallation, plus maintenaance, plus life span. He determined that it would not pay off unless the cost of electricity almost doubled.

Unfortunately, Green house gases was the arguement made to justify the expense. The project officer told me that he was disgusted beyond belief. He had raised his objections, but was told to shut up and accomplish the mission.

“Sensitivities” meaning the thing won’t work in Foggy Bottom, and Obama is “sensitive” to evidence of yet another crashing failure.

ue to sensitivities of the competitive procurement process, the Department cannot disclose information about the procurement process.
