A mother who shocked America by drowning her five children in the bathtub may be freed by the end of the year, according to her lawyer.
Andrea Yates systematically murdered her children, aged between six months and seven years, at her suburban Clear Lake, Texas, home ten years ago today.
She then dialled 911 and told the first police officer who arrived at the house: 'I just killed my kids.'

“This woman didn’t deserve the death penalty.”
She is a Mass-Murderer and all mass-murderers deserve the death penalty.
And they should have locked her husband up for the rest of his life.
I think that a lot of people do not understand how much of our feelings come from hormones. I am reminded of a story I read HERE on FR. One FReeper's older, tough macho Dad was going through prostate cancer treatment which included giving him estrogen. When she and her mother came home from shopping, they found him watching a sitcom on TV with an emotional theme and old tough Gramps was crying his eyes out! He sobbed, "I don't know how you women STAND it!"
With the dumping of all her hormones, somehow in an extreme way, and no doubt she is a rare case with utter sensitivity in her brain to the hormone dump post-partum, she was NOT IN CONTROL of herself. She did not know what she was doing. She was compelled.
If I were releasing her from custody, I'd insist on a monthly doctor's visit to keep her hormones in check. She COULD become dangerous again and she should be under medical care forever. But this is NOT a child murder case like the Casey Anthony one.
Who's excusing and/or justifying evil? Some of us seem to understand that the woman did an evil deed...beyond comprehension, in fact. But she was not an evil person...she was crazy!
Do you really think a sane, mean woman could kill her kids? I don't.
Evil women are like Joan "Mommie Dearest" Crawford.
It takes a crazy mother to kill her kids.
Assuming she has those memories. But regardless she has to accept the fact that she did it base on what she is now told and undoubtedly understands. I’d think this has been go over with her a lot at the mental institution as part of the recovery process in order for her to be released.
I agree with your comment about her sorry husband. I wonder what he is putting his new wife through.
I appreciate it..:=)
But the fact stands..
God told her to kill the kids "to save them." You don't think that's crazy.
No, she and her defense team were cunning..."God told me to do it"..what BS!
The bottom line:
The woman killed her children, fry her a$$!
Just my ignorant opinion.
I have no argument with that assessment. :)
Very well thought out, reasoned and articulate post.
Hey, you better watch it or I'll move to Texas!..:=)
Touche! En Garde!
Your post brings the oepra “ Carmen “ to mind and the Toreador Aria!
You have elevated this thread to a higher level of discourse! Voila!
We pay a high price for our freedom in this country....and we pay an enormous price for our justice system. The eruoweenies are always calling us “murderers” and cowboys, albeit we have, considering the violence we endure on a daily basis...THE most sophisticated and moral code of ethics.
And being Judeo-Christian we believe in the sanctity of all life and from there comes our reluctance to execute the mentally ill...
...Now the Progressives/Libs have NO problem disposing of “defective “ people.
Oooh NOOOOO! Say it isn't so!
Actually, I have a friend who moved here from Oregon...we don't talk politics so we can stay friends.
I was thinking about Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.” /snicker/
So the eggheads have determined that crazy women are exempt from punishment, in particular if they have PPD?
What about the homeless guy who smashes a brick in your head because he heard demons? Will he get the same treatment?
Is every woman with this condition a potential murderer? And when their scrambled brain is clear of evil, are they allowed to babysit?
Well, said FRiend!
I suppose the only thing we disagree on is who, and who not, is mentally ill.
We can agree to disagree.
The 36-year-old mother suffered from postpartum psychosis, the most severe and rarest form of postpartum depression.Tsunami of BullSh*t Alert!
It must have been a living hell for her.I'm going to hold my tongue regarding you and your post and merely say: It probably was no picnic for the kids.
(I'm really restraining myself here. I've deleted five different sentences I was about to let loose with.)
FRiend, you have never known anyone as right-wing as me...you'd probably tell me to just shut-up..LOL!
I prefer execution for murderers.I agree.
This had to have been premeditated; she locked the doors, blocked off escape routes, and had to chase the last kid around the house until she cuaght him. This wasnt something spontaneous. She deserves a bullet. And her defenders deserve to be pistol-whipped.
