Washington (CNN) - With the Republican base largely unified in its contempt for President Obama's health care law, Sen. Jim DeMint, an icon of the tea party movement, has been forced to explain his early support for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's health care plan, which was a model for reform on the federal level.
The South Carolinian cited the "innovative" Massachusetts health care plan when he endorsed Romney's 2008 presidential bid, saying the plan leveraged "good conservative ideas" like bringing private insurance companies into the process.
DeMint told CNN over the weekend at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans that he supported Romney's campaign in 2008 because he admired the then-governor's attempt to fix the broken health care system.
"At the time I was very interested in any governor who took that on, because I knew if states didn't, we'd end up with something like 'Obamacare,'" DeMint said.

"I have never supported a mandate," DeMint said. "It's just not a good way to make things work in our country, to require somebody to do something. There are different opinions on that but I have always appreciated anyone who had the courage to take it on."

The simple fact of the matter is that Palin made a lot of statements--including stating her pre-2008 admiration for McCain as he attacked and sabotaged Republicans (particularly the conservative ones)--in the 2010 Arizona primary election that were as disturbing as DeMint's support of Romneycare in 2008.
These are all on the record, yet she has done nothing to dispel them, nor has she done anything to dispel her PAC's documented contributions to Hatch, Graham, and other RINOs.

Bingo. Romneycare didn’t work, but at least it was tried.
That’s the idea of states sovereignty. Let them each try something. If 50 states try 50 different health care programs, there is a good chance one will work well enough to be used on a national level, or else adopted by other states.
If each state is afraid to try a new plan, for fear of criticism if it doesn’t work, then the void will be filled with a national plan, which is what we have now.
I think we have too many collaborators hiding our ranks trying to sink any conservative that MIGHT have a chance of getting ahead in the GOP. They’re being aided by conservatives who won’t accept anything less than “perfect” in a candidate or Congresscritter.
The little lib pissants are here trying to infest conservative thought with doubts and derision. There will be no perfect conservative candidate, and elections are the first step. After ABO is sworn in and the Dems lose control of both houses (and state legislatures) in 2013 we apply constant pressure to clean up the mess created in the last 60+ years.
Don't pay any attention to the nit-pickers; most of them are infiltraitors.
Sadly, the GOP is not only the party of losers, but uninformed losers too. They don’t know how to nominate candidates and hence keep losing elections or electing losers! It’s a vicious cycle.
If mAssachusetts wants to screw up medical insurance within the borders of its own state, it is within its rights and powers to do so.
What works in one state may not work in another. Personally I have no use for Romneycare or Obamacare and if Rick Snyder pushes some kind of Snydercare here in Michigan I’ll oppose it here but I’m not going to worry about Massachusetts. They do a lot of crap I disagree with.

I agree, and the brilliance of our Founders is that they understood that a failed project in a single state could be a blessing of a lesson to every other state in the Republic.
As long as what one state does has no effect in another, let them do as they wish. Obviously things like slavery are no nos but you get the point.
Here in Michigan we’re pretty free and easy with guns. A comparison with Illinois is beginning to show a pretty clear advantage from the crime prevention standpoint in Michigan.
I can agree to some of that sentence, but not the part about the national level. If "romneycare" happened to "work", the other 56 states would be welcome if they are insane enough to choose, to work similar programs. BUT, it should never be considered on a national level, since it is nationally unconstitutional. Period.
Why? In 2010, she fought for the treasonous bastard McCain against a real conservative!

I was pleasantly surprised by Rick Santorum yesterday on Glenn Beck’s show. He’s one of the least likely people I would vote for but he gave some good answers (and a few bad ones)
Beck asked him what he thinks the job of the fed should be and Santorum said something along the lines of “Keeping the economy going”. Glenn disagreed and suggested that their job should be to pack up and get out. LOL

That's hardly "the minimum." If anything, it's far more than Brown (or Romney himself!) did for McCain in the 2010 election cycle, and both of those two were called in to shill for McCain too.

Medicare is already a national program though. Unless Medicare monies block granted to states (good idea but not likely to happen) it remains a federal program.
Agree that health care should be federal based on the Constitution, but it already is and the odds of that changing are between slim and none.
