Rick Perry: A Texan’s ‘exceptionalism’
Washington Post ^ | June 24, 2011 | George Will

In the 1850s, on the steps of the Waco courthouse, Wallace Jefferson’s great-great-great-grandfather was sold. Today, Jefferson is chief justice of Texas’s Supreme Court. The governor who nominated him also nominated the state’s first Latina justice. Rick Perry, 61, the longest-serving governor in Texas history and, in his 11th year, currently the nation’s senior governor, says these nominations are two of his proudest accomplishments.

French cuffs and cowboy boots are, like sauerkraut ice cream, an eclectic combination, but Perry, who wears both, is a potentially potent candidate for the Republican presidential nomination because his political creed is uneclectic, matching that of the Republican nominating electorate. He was a “10th Amendment conservative” (“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people”) before the Tea Party appeared. And before Barack Obama’s statism — especially Obamacare’s individual mandate — catalyzed concern for the American project of limited government.

Social issues, especially abortion, are gateways to the Republican nominating electorate: In today’s climate of economic fear, a candidate’s positions on social issues will not be decisive with his electorate — but they can be disqualifying. Perry — an evangelical Christian, like most Republican participants in Iowa’s caucuses and the South Carolina primary — emphatically qualifies.

[snip]

The Republican contest probably will become a binary choice — Romney and the Not Romney candidate. If Perry becomes the latter, he will do so by his visceral appeal to social conservatives, and by trumping Romney’s economic expertise with “Texas exceptionalism”:.....

RE :”LOL

A while back AuntB sent me a link to this Armey video(which I didnt even know about) , it captures campassionate conservatism great.
Dick Armey of Freedomworks Wants Liberty for Illegal Aliens ‘Bless Their Hearts’

My Answer?? “Yes Dick. I cant fault illegals for coming over to get free-bee’s that you RINO’s hand out but dont fault us for trying to save this country from a complete destruction from them draining every $$$ we earn through the generous welfare system,.

Dick doesnt seem to care if they vote for politicians like Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer and Maxine Waters to run our country, as they did in CA. You see much 'freedom' in LA Dick where they outlawed new fast food restaurants??

So you don’t give a darn about ILLEGAL searches. Any search without probable cause is illegal per the 4th Amendment. I guess you consider our constitution a living document, they didn’t have airplanes nor jihadists back in the 18th century you’ll say.

I claimed the TSA was putting their hands inside the panties of 6 year old girls. You doubted that happened. I provided the video. You refused to acknowledge you looked at it. Don’t bother, you would care regardless.

Perry is a RINO and we all know it.

“So you don’t give a darn about ILLEGAL searches. Any search without probable cause is illegal per the 4th Amendment. I guess you consider our constitution a living document, they didn’t have airplanes nor jihadists back in the 18th century you’ll say.” My opinion of these things has not been at issue since I have been talking about constitutionality. Since no one has been charged with any ILLEGALITY while doing their jobs apparently they have not been doing anything ILLEGAL outside of your mind.

“I claimed the TSA was putting their hands inside the panties of 6 year old girls. You doubted that happened. I provided the video. You refused to acknowledge you looked at it. Don’t bother, you would care regardless.” I watched one and it was so stupid as to be absurd and had NOTHING to do with actions done in the line of duty. In other words it is totally FALSE that it shows what you have been claiming. I am sure the others are equally false and stupid so why bother.

“Perry is a RINO and we all know it.” Sure we do just like we know that 90% of the Party is RINO. And so who do you support?

Your points are excellent.

Obama and his Bolsheviks are the enemy, and they are rolling on the floor laughing at us as we fight amongst ourselves.

Reagan was a Democrat too, once. So was I. Once I did some research, and discovered who and what the Dems really are, I rejected them utterly, and have nothing but contempt for them. My first Presidential election-lever pull ever was for Ronald Reagan, after watching Jimmy Carter lay waste to the economy and eff-up everything he touched (and he's still plaguing us now; he does not have the decency to just fade into the sunset and go away).

To Paraphrase Saint Paul - “When I was a child, I thought like a Democrat; when I became a man, I grew a brain and became a Conservative...”
