Whether Gov. Rick Perry of Texas takes the stage wearing a suit or jeans, he walks with a confident swagger in cowboy boots.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie owns any stage because of his blunt talk and seemingly unpopular remedies.
Outspoken former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin breaks political stereotypes with her unpredictability.
These three share something: They are popular Republicans who are not seeking the party's 2012 presidential nomination — yet. Republican voters and political strategists lately are speculating whether one of the three might be a better choice than any of eight declared GOP contenders.
People are thinking about their favorites because the contest has not begun in earnest and the debate between candidates is not engaging, said Lara Brown, a political science professor at Villanova University.

Christie? Any American who doesn't have a problem with a Ground Zero mosque - I have to really question their patriotism. OTOH, I do like the way he throws it right back at the Rats. But the mosque issue is a biggie in my book.
disagree. Perry will take votes from Mitt. Perry would be a great stalking horse for Palin. Palin’s support isn’t going anywhere but to Palin unless she screws up or doesn’t run. Perry will tak away the Anyone but Palin “conservative” vote from Mitt and to a large part Bachmann. Making it a two person race between Mitt and Palin in the polls. The longer Perry stay in the race the mor ethe race becomes a two person race between Mitt and Palin. And if a stalking horse gets in and takes mitt votes away from his left like say rudy then Palin leaps into the lead position as mitt falters...then I think you see a massive push by the establishment to get christie into the race or Jeb....
I’m waiting to see how Palin and Perry campaign. I like them both. But they need to be able to GET OUT THE VOTE and take it to Obama.
We all can’t be pigeon-holed so easily. We are not sheeple.
I think Palin has faded but has a fan club...much like Hillary did.
Now who would make a good VP for Perry???....besides Palin.

here is a hint. All of those “declared” candidates would sell their mother’s soul for Palin’s “fan club”
as far as Perry goes all you need to know is that Perry had Palin come in to do a rally for his re-election on Super bowl Sunday. 8,000 people showed up. Perry had a rally the next week a non superbowl super and 500 people showed up. even in TX Palin is the bigger draw.
Perry might make a good VP for Palin. I think the establishment would be happy if Palin threw them that bone much like Reagan threw them the Bush bone in 1980
of course the GOTV is important. and their cmapaigns are important but right now the declared candidates suck.

I live in Texas. Both my kids graduated from A & M, Perry’s alma mater. I like Perry and, overall, he has done a good job for Texas. BUT, he is not the committed conservative that Palin is. Like Bush the younger and older, he can be counted on to say one thing then do another on an important issue, e.g. “read my lips”. On immigration, he will say one thing on the campaign trail and then cave. He’s Jeb Bush on immigration.........and not “light”. Like Jeb and the pubbie elites, Rick has convinced himself that the Hispanic vote is there IF and only IF “amnesty” is granted to 20 million folks. Every single Mexican I have talked to is against amnesty. Yes, we desperately need their workers and particularly the construction industry. But, amnesty is mis-understood by elite pubbies. Work permits and a secure, whatever it takes, border are the main answers.
Personally, I think LBJ, not Carter was our worst president, Bush the older was not too good either though I respected him. Bush the younger was good in so many ways, and very likeable, but a dad gum big spending liberal at heart. So, sadly, “Texas” Presidents..........uh....ain’t exactly standing tall when compared to one certain “MAN” from the left coast.
Finally, the boys have had their shot for 200 plus years, and I am excluding Obama as he is such an incalcuable disaster.
So, in my paltry opinion, it’s time to give the girls a shot........... They surely can do no worse!!! I much prefer Palin but I like Bachmann too. In Palin, I believe we can count on her not caving on the big issues. That woman is tough and fearless and there is no evidence of her caving on any issue connected to her core beliefs. (and, in advance to the trolls, please spare me the resignation thing comment; as we now know, it was a brilliant move as without it we (conservatives) would not control the house)
If that is the case, we might just as well cancel the 2012 election and let Obama rule 'till our goose is cooked.

Write-ins are a good protest. OTOH, I think it's very possible that Jeb COULD beat Obama.
Like I wrote in another thread last week, at this point, people would drop to their knees and cry praises to Heaven for 4.6% unemployment and gasoline at $1.85/gallon, IOW, a Bush economy.
They share much of the same policies.

As you likely know then, in Texas we have families that on Thanksgiving draw real fine lines. Mine is a perfect example of that. Mom and Dad LOVE our Aggie kids, AND Texas A & M University, but we we are “Tea Sips” (to you non Texans that is Aggie talk for someone that went to arch rival UT-Austin, 65 miles away). So, 364 days out of the year, Mom and Dad are proud Aggies. But, when the Horns line up against the Ags on the gridiron come Thanksgiving each year.........it’s “hook em horns” from mom and dad vs “gig em” (and a lot worse!) from the aggie kids and their buddies in the living room.
Similarly, I’m not trying to tear down ole Rick. I am just trying to draw a fine line. Indeed, he’s a good guy and I certainly will vote for him, work hard for him and contribute to him IF he wins the nomination. And, oh for heavens sake, he would be immeasurably better than the current occupant of the White House!!! But, he ain’t no Sara Palin or Ronald Reagan. And, Texas Presidents, History teaches us without a doubt, campaign conservative and then lean left for 4 years. In LBJ’s case he didn’t lean. He just stepped completely back and forth across the line whenever it suited him. At least, he could read tea leaves though and did not attempt to run again.............lesson to Obama!!!
