Dangerous Disaffection (The GOP can’t afford to lose blue-collar whites)
National Review Online ^ | June 28, 2011 | Henry Olsen

[Snip]

Research shows that blue-collar whites take the political positions they do because of their self-perception. They know they are less skilled than others; this makes them friendlier to protection from competition, whether the competition comes from trade abroad or immigrant workers at home. They depend more on public services to provide public order (which is why they support police so much) and economic stability (which is what middle-class entitlements support). Above all, they are risk-averse and proud. They fear the future as much as or more than they welcome it; one misstep and their whole world can collapse. This means they are wary of sudden change, whether it comes from the left or the right. And their dignity and pride mean they resist attempts to tell them what to do or treat them like pawns in someone else’s game, whether those attempts come from big business, big government, or big anything.

[snip]

Ronald Reagan understood all of this decades ago. Even after the Goldwater debacle of 1964, he knew that Americans had voted against Goldwater because he had been cast as a radical. Reagan told the readers of National Review that “human nature resists change and goes over backward to avoid radical change,” and advised: “Time now for the soft sell to prove that our radicalism was an optical illusion.” He spent his entire political career showing how American conservative principles were not scary, but rather the simple, proven ideas that make Americans unique.

Reagan’s rhetoric always made the typical American feel valued and special.....

His vision of a new Republican party included the educated and the uneducated, the working class as well as the upper class......

...Blue-collar whites believe the president and the Democrats do not have their best interests at heart....

Most blue collar whites won’t get along with socially pathological middle class employees in corporate-government offices. The only way to get our votes is to show us a good man—one who has no allegiance to communist China, American feminists or sexually confused leaders of any kind.

Politics! Friends, prepare, and stop buying!

BTW, those very few of us “blue collar” men still living are far more skilled than any other group in the population. We can fix, build or manufacture just about anything, but there are many regulations against men at work—mostly local regulations. And we’re not going to pay business-killing flooring costs to some lazy main street landlord/landlady or get any loan from a thieving bank.

Continue to your economic consequences of political correctness, then we’ll see about rebuilding this country for you.

The demonic Obama doesn’t (and can’t) even follow through with promises to help American workers whose work is in trouble. There’s no reason the working redneck (of almost any color, though it’s hard to get black ones to leave the plantation) should go for Barack Obama in 2012. He is not trustworthy.

If blue collar workers allow themselves to be scammed by the frauds in the White House and the DNC, including the unions, they will deserve the poverty it brings them.

And your country will be ruined along with them.

It is probably impossible for the GOP to become American worker friendly.

So, which is it? American workers, or Chinese workers?

Neither major party cares.

We should.

“We should.”

How do you propose we prevent blue collar workers from participating in the liberal destruction of America?

Some protectionism has to be on the table. Another good idea would be to break up the national unions. I wonder if blue collar workers would go for the latter. How many would go along with right to work laws?

Conservatism will re-invigorate our economy, manufacturing, energy production, and that growth will put people back to work at all levels. How can that not appeal to blue collar workers?
