NC just raised their gas tax another 2.5 cents. I think that they're trying to make sure people stay out of the state.
You are correct as I should have expanded my comments to note the difference between static and dynamic evaluation of a proposal. Your comments include the dynamic effects that will result from the new law.
That’s the beauty of Federalism. If you don’t like the laws in one state then move to another state. Competition between the states helps everyone.
Maybe 25,000 businesses closed & not paying business taxes.
All the sales taxes paid by these businesses in maintaining their business are gone.
With their income cut, that's 25,000 or more taxpayers paying less income tax.
Some people are out of a job, so unemployment & welfare costs increase.
Plus, all the people considering opening an Internet based business in CA are now rethinking that foolish idea. So, Brown & Co. not only reduced current tax revenues, but future revenues, too.

Yup. I get a lot of books and movies thru Amazon; often you can get them cheaper thru the affiliates even with the “postage and handling” costs.
Hate to see it happen, but somebody has to stand up to this crap.
Most of my family shrugged. Sort of. We have a family owned business and took ourselves off the payroll. No more FICA taxes and contributions to Unemployment and Social Security and Workman's Comp contributions. My wife took a job with a Government Contractor and we are paying off all our debt (mostly business debt) in a rapid fashion. We already own all our property out right save for our twice yearly tax payments to the state.
Now we are working towards a very low financial profile where we spend and earn very little money yet maintain a robust lifestyle.
Our next move is a small farm near town so we can expand our gardening and can also maintain a few cows and pigs and chickens for food.
Still not as good as The Greaseman referring to “Deliverance” as a training film in West Virginia.

IN N OUT Burger better start building more IN N OUT burgers in Texas because I foresee at least 25,000 Californians moving here sooner than later and probably a whole lot more.

I suppose sanctuary cities cost a lot, what with the “free” money going to people who never paid in and scamming businesses that pay no taxes on the illegal aliens they hire. So they will make the Internet businesses pay.
Somehow, by eliminating most business by taxing and regulating it out of the state, this will encourage “green jobs.”

I'm not from CA, but I've never heard of this. Sounds like something out of 1984, or maybe the old Soviet Union.
Apparently, one tax agency just isn't enough for California. It has two: the Board of Equalization for sales/use taxes and the Franchise Tax Board for income taxes.
Or dive to Pennsylvania for cloths which are not taxed there.
