Sarah Palin: Still the GOP’s Biggest Star
/theiowarepublican ^ | Wednesday June 29, 2011 | Craig Robinson

...Palin was amazing in Pella yesterday. As she and Todd made their way though various shops in the downtown area, onlookers would stop to say hello, ask to take a photo, or get an autograph. Palin took it all in stride. Even though she is a huge media sensation, she is somehow able to remain grounded. Nothing illustrated that more than the bug splattered Chevy Malibu that they drove to Pella.

The media couldn’t help but try and compare Palin to Michele Bachmann, who officially launched her presidential campaign on Monday. They both connect to people, and both have star power, but having seem them both in Iowa in the span of 24 hours, it’s clear that Palin will always be the original female GOP star. That’s not an insult toward Bachmann, but Palin’s star shines brighter.

I thought it was pretty remarkable that Palin, who is a national political phenomenon, came to this small Iowa town, strolled through the town square, watched a two-hour movie with 300 plus locals, and then spent several hours meeting people and shaking hands at the cook out that followed the movie premier. The people just flocked to her in Pella last night, and she handled it all with grace.

Palin must have posed for a thousand photographs last night. In addition, she also autographed hundreds of books, tickets, and even a baseball. While she could have left at any time, she patiently worked through the crowd until she hit the door of her car. The crowd loved her. Nobody went home disappointed.

My initial thought while watching the movies was, where was this three years ago when Palin was on the Republican presidential ticket? The movie does an excellent job of telling the story of Palin’s political career, the odds she faced, the victories she achieved, and the price that she ultimately paid.

Money quote from the article, the whole thing is a great read.

Still the GOP’s Biggest Star

If only the GOP admitted that, as well. [sigh]

"Nobody went home disappointed."

Oh, I'm sure that the media went away "disappointed". So there had to have been at least a few of those.

I think that question will be answered by Bristol over the next several months using serrated edged flatware...

But but but...she can’t win! She isn’t reaching out to the locals! All the polls say this is wrong! /sarc

The difference between Palin and Bachman is the difference between a 40 Watt bulb and a 100 Watt bulb.

They both give light, but Palin just out shines her by a far cry.

Either she runs for this election or not at all.

If Davy Crockett were alive today, I wonder if he'd drive into town in a Chevy Malibu.

Everything happens in due time. She wasn't as well known back then...well, FReepers knew of her even before McCain teamed up with her, but to the rest of the country, she was unknown. She's had to prove herself to the independents and undecideds and I think she's done a fine job of it. The big unfortunate here is that we've had to endure the current "administration" (spit) while waiting for her. Run, Sarah, Run!

Apparently somebody who was at the BBQ Tuesday Night said that a CNN reporter leaned over a fence talking to an elderly woman at the event and was trying to urge her to reconsider Michele Bachmann instead of Palin.....this was after the elderly lady told the reporter that she was solidly behind Sarah now after seeing the movie and her questions as to why Palin resigned were answered.

Good post.

A hat tip to xjcsa for his strong defense in the comments following the article.

Xjcsa relentlessly but politely challenged and refuted a mush brain until said mushbrain got tired of embarassing himself. Job well done!

Bingo!!.... and that’s no offense or knock to Bachmann. Sarah has a committed base that has been with her through the wars of these 3 years against her. Many fell in love with Sarah on Aughust 29, 2008 and while many ‘know about’ Bachmann and are warming up to her and like her, they know and love Sarah.

Blame Rudy. :)

I mean that in a fun way, but remember his speech went so far over its allotted time that the video introduction of Sarah Palin was never showed on the National Coverage prior to her speech.

She was introduced not long after Rudy finally got the hook and went right into her speech. Any definition of Palin prior to the MSM getting their libel on could have helped immensely that night.

Hell we could even blame the RNC...there is no way that the networks would have dropped coverage of the speech.

“The difference between Palin and Bachman is the difference between a 40 Watt bulb and a 100 Watt bulb.”

I could not agree with you more. We need a 100 Watter to rid this country of that worthless pen-light in the White House.

You can try ignore her but sooner or later you'll have to deal with that 800 lb Grizzly.
Just don't make her angry. You wouldn't want to have to deal with that.

I got “Going Rogue” for Christmas 2 years ago. I’m just now reading it and I absolutely love it. I hope to have it finished by the time I go see “Undefeated” in July. (No, I’m not a fast reader.) I’m confident she’s going to throw her hat in the ring after mid-July, as some have said. She was already smart and tough, but she’s gotten more so over the last 2 years.
