Did Sarah Palin Use Newsweek for Product Placement? (Accused of crime for wearing gym clothing)
Forbes ^ | Monday, July 11, 2011 | Jeff Bercovici

Posted on 07/11/2011 3:30:34 PM PDT by kristinn

Sarah Palin is no fan of the “lamestream media” — except when she’s using it to serve her ends. Is she using Newsweek to get free personal training? And, if so, is that entirely legal?

The former Alaska governor appears on the cover of the new issue of Newsweek wearing a gray sweatshirt with a logo on it reading “Edge Fitness.” That’s the name of a gym in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. Edge Fitness was featured last November in an episode of her TLC show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” and it also received a plug on a Facebook page Palin apparently created under an alias and used for posting pseudonymous comments.

A Newsweek spokesman says Palin selected her own clothing for the photo shoot; there was no stylist present. It could be that Palin is simply such a big fan of Edge’s services, she can’t resist proselytizing for them. But Palin is known for aggressive monetization of her personal brand and a taste for the material perquisites of Hollywood-style fame. It seems probable, therefore, that she’s getting something for her enthusiastic endorsements — perhaps free personal training? I’ve emailed Palin, directly and via her SarahPAC, but haven’t heard back. I also haven’t heard back from Edge Fitness.

She has been known to seek payment from magazines in exchange for her participation in stories.

Is this reporter the same A-hole who filed a lawsuit against Palin for daring to wear a snowsuit with a snowmachine Mfg.’s logo showing while she was governor?

Does Obama get free meals and compensation when he sits down to a meal at his favorite pizza and BBQ ribs joint? Or does he just have his beloved Chicago pizza and the chef for same flown to DC at taxpayer expense to satisfy his hunger pains?

Does Michelle la Belle get discounts and free clothing when she name drops the designer’s of her multi thousand dollar dresses? How about from Target, for her $13.00 flour sack material dress when she wanted the LSM to present her dressed down common folk flair?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Seems to me that Newsweak is using Palin placement to sell magazines. Did the writer bother to look into that unethical behavior?

“the logo could easily have been removed in Photoshop.”

In other news today, a photog reporter was fired, banned for life, and all his work destroyed because he edited his shadow out of a picture of kids playing soccer. Not kidding.

I see this story as having very little to do with Palin and is all about the author being a good little progressive drone and the general hypocrisy of the left. You are correct but then the president has appeared in some name brand golf attire... but then he is a dim and the rules do not apply.

Probable? Not even while your face is in the bong, dude.

But it's called logic in liberal land.

In conservative land, it's called a paid MSM shill inventing a reason to sling slander without cause, for which he is fully indemnified, and which he can use on his resume' later to further his career as yellow rag hit-writer.

I couldn’t read the article due to the large amounts of drool and froth on the link..

I guess if they had suspected it was going to cause problems, she could always have posed sans shirt.

(Speaking of drool)

Full Disclosure: first one to post a Helen Thomas pic gets it.

Cheers!

Yes, I’m quite sure that Edge Fitness in Wasilla, Alaska, is expecting hoards of new customers from amongst Sarah’s supporters who will surely come flying in from the midwest for their weekly workouts. It should be quite a boon for hotels in Wasilla too.

Jeff Bercovici is damn a hypocrite to complain about the use of media to promote one’s interests.

Sarah Palin is not running, anything she chooses to wear, and any compensation she receives is legal.

Sarah Palin is also much more intelligent than this "reporter".

Oops, that was a Captain Obvious observation, sorry.

Since it was Palin, its predictable. I knew it would come up as soon as I saw the picture. So I guess if the President was wearing anything with a logo on it, the MSM would just ignore it. Palin gets accused of everything no mater how trivial the thing it is. Its all part of the SMEAR job of the MSM and Dems. The one they smear the most is the one they fear the most. If Palin thinks she can beat Obama, you can bet her internals must be very favorable.

Let's look at the last paragraph:

Palin would seem to fall into a gray area. She’s certainly a celebrity, but she’s also a politician. People might assume that Sarah Palin the Reality TV Star is getting free stuff in exchange for promotion. But would they assume that of Sarah Palin the Presidential Candidate?

The author is apparently saying that this would be OK for Palin the celebrity, but possibly not OK for Palin the politician.

Since Palin has not yet declared her candidacy, one could conclude that she's done nothing wrong.

He must have done a really lousy job removing that shadow!

Simultaneously dumber than Trig and smarter and more evil than Lucrezia Borgia. Is there anything Sarah Palin can’t do?
