A young Brooklyn man who became a Marine to be just like his dad was mortally wounded trying to save a comrade during a bloody clash in Afghanistan last week, grieving kin and the military said yesterday.
"The last thing I told him when he came home for Thanksgiving was, 'Be safe, Jabari. I want you to come back home alive.' And he smiled -- he had a lovely smile," recalled Njaye Shinhoster, 57, the shattered stepmom of slain Lance Cpl. Jabari Thompson, 22.
"He said he loved us and that he'd be back," she said.
But Thompson, a machine-gunner, never recovered from the horrific wounds he sustained in combat July 13 in Afghanistan's Helmand province, succumbing at a military hospital in Germany on Sunday.

John 15:13
God Bless You, Marine!
RIP and thank you.
RIP.... .you will not be forgotten
Rest in peace sir, and God bless and keep your family and loved ones.
THE FINAL INSPECTION
The Marine stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, you Marine,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?”
The Marine squared his shoulders and
said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t
Because those of us who carry guns
Can’t always be a saint.
I’ve had to work most Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Marine waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God,
“Step forward now, you Marine,
You’ve borne your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Semper Fi
Semper Fi, Marine!
Hand salute...
Ready...
To...
Rest in peace Jabari, in God’s care.
We honor your courage and salute you, Marine. Prayers of comfort for your grieving family and friends.
God Bless you brother Marine, semper fi.
That brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it.
And may that brave young man rest in peace.
GOD Bless, Marine. We’re proud of you...Semper Fi.
Too many brave young men are dying in that Afghanistan toilet.
It’s not like we are dpoing anything there that will be appreciated, by the Afghani’s.
We need to bring these men home-—alive.
God Bless this man , he made the untimate sacrifice, Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends , I would like to add “and his country”.
Their dedication to Marine standards and to one another is very obvious.
I am not surprised by his sacrifice for his fellow Marine.
All one needs to recount is the 2008 battle with Gunny Blonder:

At my shop, there was a Gunny as the NCOIC.....there is no ambiguity in a Gunny.
Not to detract from Gunny Blonder heroics....but most Gunny's are the same.
I'm glad I met him. And, to repeat you: "Rest in Peace, Fallen Brother and Semper Fi! Prayers of condolence to your family."
Semper Paratus is the official motto....however, the unofficial motto was and still is:
“You have to go out, you don't have to come back.”
I'm glad they still hold the unofficial motto dear to their core values.
RIP.
Prayers up for this Marine, and all service members lost.
