‘I’m just quitting’: A scene right out of ‘Atlas Shrugged’ in Birmingham

If it had been a scene in “Atlas Shrugged,” the guy would have disappeared into the secrecy of Colorado with a shadowy figure who we would later learn to be John Galt. In real life, the story will probably be more complex. But I wonder how long it’s going to be before businesspeople really do start walking away and deciding it’s not worth doing business in America today. Or it it already happening and we just don’t know it?

The man you see in the picture at the right is named Ronnie Bryant. He operates coal mines in Alabama. I’d never heard of him until this morning, but after what I saw and heard from him, I’d say he’s a bit like a southern version of Ellis Wyatt from Ayn Rand’s novel. What I saw made an impression on me.

Nahhhhh, I’d leave him alone...We know what’s going on...No need to disrespect whatever privacy they are trying to achieve...

My neighbors hate that I work on my own vehicles (shovel my own snow, cut my own lawn, etc.). I really have no idea exactly what their problems are, but after 40 years they have really pissed me off.

I will look into that...lol. Not trying to make too light of it though because I think you have a valid point about where things are headed. It doesn’t look good. Rush played this clip today on his show..so it’s going viral.

Rent “The Fountainhead” from Netflix. It’s another Rand novel. It stars Gary Cooper. Pretty good movie (book is better).

“What clip?”

The audio of this ‘John Galt’ dude in Alabama that this thread is all about....lol. If you haven’t listened to it yet, do so.... it is remarkable. He has this mine in Alabama that he is just going to close because he is tired of the enviromentalists, the EPA, government regulations, etc. etc. etc. He could employ about 150 to 200 people but the marxists just won’t leave him alone. It’s become impossible.

The politically well connected will use their money and influence through lobbyists, unions, and manipulation of regulations and tax codes to squeeze out any competition, because they don’t want the small players to become the big players, and become a dierct threat to their gravy train.

* Established residents and real estate interests don’t want any mine or gas well in their area, even if it’s in the middle of nowhere.

The next time a freeper with a construction business goes Galt and dumps equipment, I can use a small tractor with bucket and backhoe or a small excavator. Being a disabled vet, I can't afford either. So please dump the equipment here in open storage. that way if things turn around you can get it back. I will use the small tractor while here as rent.

I did not post this trying to be funny.

You got that right. The fools do not even know that they are condeming themselves to death by starvation by what they are advocating. But then again, if they had the intelligence to get in out of the rain, they would not be fools.

You should see the regulations that are on the Florida farrmers now. I don’t see how they manage to stay in business.
