Boehner Calls Rush Limbaugh, Gives Details of Negotiations With Reid, McConnell
Monday, July 25, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/25/2011 10:11:01 AM PDT by kristinn

Rush Limbaugh said Speaker of the House John Boehner phoned him this morning around 10:30 to brief him on the latest news about his negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Limbaugh told about the conversation on his nationally syndicated radio program. Boehner said there is a two-tier plan in the works. Step one would cut $1.1 trillion in spending with a $1 trillion increase in the debt that would get the government to April 2012 with no tax increases.

The next tier would be recommended cuts by a joint House-Senate committee made by twelve members, six from each chamber with three each appointed by each leader, Boehner, Reid, McConnell and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Limbaugh said that McConnell is now on the same page as Boehner.

We already had a debt commission - ordered by Obama - whose recommendations Obama is currently ignoring!

Different because Congress is directly obliged to vote here. Also, it is directly tied once again to the debt limit so action must be taken.

If it displeases the House conservatives it won't pass.

The Obama administration is launching a media- and public-outreach program to improve Palestinian opinion of U.S. policy – a project that also seeks to promote the U.S. role in financing "Palestinian development and building the future Palestinian State," a federal contracting document reveals. .....

He's planning on spending money on a bunch of squatters in the middle east right now as we type. Why not cut programs like these? They have nothing to do with us.

No. The Democrats will only cut those things that help the U.S. and it's people, and will demand an increase of funding on those things that destroy us.

He'll bring out his little pen and put it all to rest

All his little pen can do in this case is veto. And he won't do it.

Is Herr Ubama doesn’t like it, he can say so with his VETO pen. These folks will get played like a fiddle is they aren’t more cautious of their “co-equal Constitutional power”.

Supposedly Obama will sign whatever is passed.
You can't make a gentleman's agreement with scoundrels, I hope they understand this fact. I am afraid most of them are more concerned with "their career" and only want to be able have deniability for the mess they are about to hang on us.

And good for Boehner going to the so-called alternative media. I’ll grant him that. He obviously doesn’t trust the lamebrain media spin on this any more than we do.

Step one would cut $1.1 trillion in spending...

Over what time period? Is this the "over 10 years" nonsense or NOW?

...with a $1 trillion increase in the debt that would get the government to April 2012 with no tax increases.

Effective immediately, no doubt.

The next tier would be recommended cuts by a joint House-Senate committee made by twelve members, six from each chamber...

Oh, good, another committee. What was it, 17 prior committees that have done this very thing with the result being higher taxes and higher spending? Color me unimpressed.

Siena, the promise of future cuts is a ‘red herring’. What Obama wants is to crash the economy and establish Marxism in the ruins.

The debt ceiling should never be raised - it only puts us deeper in debt and THIS WILL CRASH THE ECONOMY!

BHO2 wins big! Crashing the economy is what he wants. Don’t you understand this?

If you do, have a constituional convention. Don’t be silly.

Yeah, right! That’s going to happen. The scum bag Boehner has a bridge to sell anyone who believes that.

it is nothing more than pandering and political grandstanding.

Well the Democrats, IMO, intended NOT to pass a budget two years ago... and bring it to where we see it now. I believe they planned it this way without question. They wanted an open monetary field to use and abuse as they desired and they did just that as we know. Now it's after the fact.

So....This really isn't about the budget....it is about who is going to win this pre-election political game...the budget is simply the ball they continue to dribble back and forth across the court. Scores and points as they do while the cheering sections route for their side or complain about the players.

Problem is 'timer' is running down fast ....so it will now depend on who has the ball when the timer goes off. Not to mention refererr Obama standing on the sidelines ready to make the call with a strike of his pen....and the game changes to the "blame game" on why there was no winner.

Just as in the wars fought now across the oceans....it isn't even about winning anymore....it's containing and making as many consessions as possible in order to save face for both side. Though are troops would have a win for sure!

So you’re saying this is what Boehner wants?

No, Boehner told Rush what he wants. That's not necessarily what Reid wants.

I sincerely do not think it matters what they do. It’s too late.

I agree. The only thing that will save us from the coming crash is a 40% cut in government spending - now. It's not going to happen. We're preparing, and still preparing as we go.
I'd just like to see us represented at least once before the fall. Just once!

Do you really think that they could muster 3/4 of the states to do away with them right now? When Republicans hold more than 50% of the states?

...future budget cuts are NO CUTS!

You're right, but there will be cuts this year and the future fix will involve the rate at which entitlements grow. If the growth rate is brought down over time entitlements become easier to fix long term. Also, the old playbook of "future cuts" and "new taxes now" has been reversed, that alone is a big victory.
