Boehner Calls Rush Limbaugh, Gives Details of Negotiations With Reid, McConnell
Monday, July 25, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/25/2011 10:11:01 AM PDT by kristinn

Rush Limbaugh said Speaker of the House John Boehner phoned him this morning around 10:30 to brief him on the latest news about his negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Limbaugh told about the conversation on his nationally syndicated radio program. Boehner said there is a two-tier plan in the works. Step one would cut $1.1 trillion in spending with a $1 trillion increase in the debt that would get the government to April 2012 with no tax increases.

The next tier would be recommended cuts by a joint House-Senate committee made by twelve members, six from each chamber with three each appointed by each leader, Boehner, Reid, McConnell and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Limbaugh said that McConnell is now on the same page as Boehner.

>> My disgust knows no bounds for this Super Congress idea.<<

Same here. The internals of that group need to be vetted extensively. From what I’ve read here their power is totally unconstitutional.

The Republicans in the House of Representatives are our last stand at the Alamo.

Don't think the Alamo is yet at hand.

We've got a bunch of skirmishes and we're winning this one.

According to Rush, other things Boehner told him were: The spending cuts would not be accounting gimmicks, but actual cuts.

Sorry folks, but Boehner is lying. Boehner is in the end, a weak man.

In 2013, we need a new Speaker, one with a Warrior mindset. We need a Speaker that views government as a "necessary evil" not as an inherent good.

The fundamental problem is that the current GOP leadership are truly Statists at heart. They ALL need to go.

Okaaaay. For some reason, I don't find that reassuring.

Well, I do. McConnell's plan gave Mr. Dithers sole authority to raise the debt ceiling. That's like giving a monkey a loaded gun.

Baby steps.

Instead of attacking Boehner and the House, see this as a motivator to send Obama and Senate Dems to the unemployment line in 2012.

What, so they can join me there? Not much of a silver lining.

Easily? Sounds like they are going kicking and screaming. I like that better than the alternative.

We aren't getting everything, but just as the landings on Normandy didn't end WWII it was a very successful start

Actually, I believe the terms of debate have been changing all year.

The problem is that if Boehner doesn't get 100% of what he wants, many Tea Partiers yell "cave" but I'll take 90% any day.

I am encouraged to see how much we are getting. Obama is much weaker than he appears.

All his little pen can do in this case is veto. And he won't do it.

Well he said "No" when Reid took the agreement to him earlier....which is basically an oral veto.

Obama is in this for himself and it seems it's all a power struggle now....He's not about to let the congressional representatives take the lead from him for very long...as we see by his behavior with Reid going to him with a plan they agreed on.

I know you mean well.

Likewise to you.

To put it bluntly, we don’t have time.

Yes we do. It would be even more catastrophic to make all the cuts now. Right now our debt is about 90% of our GDP.

If we do not substantially cut the budget NOW and freeze the debt ceiling, but instead raise the debt ceiling while putting off budget cuts to the future, our bond ratings will go in the toilet and the dollar as global reserve currency is rescinded.

I haven't seen the final plan, but I'm confident there are cuts this year and next. The only thing that will save our bond rating is a plan. The fed is the one destroying the dollar and creating the push for it's end as the global reserve currency, not the Congress.

This is what BHO2 wants so he can establish a Marxist government in the ruins of what once was the U.S.A.

It won't happen. One, our military will step in first. Second, what we are seeing is the last gasps of a dead political philosophy, socialism.

It all depends on what is cut and when.

I want to see how much is being cut next year and from what areas?

Is it all backloaded for 5+ years down the line?

I’ve yet to see a # on what is being cut from the 2012 budget.

It looks to me that Obama is in a win/win position.

Win: If the Republicans cave, the destruction of the Republican party is likely, and his incredibly destructive policies continue unabated. Eventually the entire country will be destroyed, and "eventually" may not be that far in the future.

Even BIGGER Win: The Republicans do NOT cave, and the debt limit is NOT raised.

Obama is acting as if this is actually his real goal. Evidence:

1. Last week he sabotaged his own negotiations by "moving the goal posts" once a deal appeared to be in reach.

2. Once Boehner and Reid seemed to reach agreement this weekend, he said he wouldn't sign their agreement.

3. TODAY, at a speach to La Raza, he again attacked the "rich", and again called for more taxes. In other words, he poured MORE gasoline on the fire.

This is the behavior of someone who WANTS the negotiations to fail.

Why would Obama WANT the negotiations to fail?

If the debt ceiling is not raised, OBAMA is the one who decides what spending gets cut.

Do we really want to give him that much power?

Some people think he would/will act responsibly, but there is absolutely zero evidence that he will. There is abundant evidence that he will cut spending in ways that will cause immense harm to this country.

The potential damage he could do is worse than any of us can imagine. Are we willing to gamble that he will NOT do so?

Do we really want Obama to be able to decide what gets spent and what does not? Do we trust him that much?

No President in history has ever had that much power. Not even close. He would not be able to raise taxes, but he would have absolute control over how the money we collect is actually spent.

Do we really want to give this man that much power?

Perhaps not. It may be more about saying "no" to make Reid push for more right up to the finish line .

When it reaches his desk, he'll sign.
