It doesn’t add up, because there were a few votes for John Bolton, Gingrich, Pawlenty, but they were in single digits and didn’t capture them.
Cain jumped the shark when he apologized to Muslims this past week.

Cain has no chance of actually getting the nomination, nor any chance against Obama.
Perry came in 2nd, a distant 2nd, but he came out ahead of Romney. He is the one with ability to win both the GOP nomination and beat Obama.

Zero chance whatsoever, but he still adds something to the debate. It is good he chose to run, though if he were serious he would have won a couple local/state elections first.

Pretty much. I have one concern with Perry. He seems to be such an ideal candidate this time around that his hesitation to run and endless testing the waters makes me wonder if he doesn't have some problem skeletons he is worried about. I'm not from Texas, but from an outsiders point of view Perry seems to have everything going for him including an extremely weak frontrunner in Romney. Why is his decision to run seem so agonizing.

I think people have concluded she isn't running. Palin is my candidate of choice, but it begins to appear to me that she isn't going to run this time around.

To the first part of your post, I agree.
To the second part, Cain would destroy obama....especially in the debates.
I personally think she’s looking at a future senate run in Arizona.
Frankly, just about anyone in the race could destroy Obama in a debate.
The fact that John McCain didn’t is beyond suspicious. As Much as I despise the man, I can’t deny he had the experience to crush Obama but didn’t.
Meh, she'd have more influence by continuing her role as a private citizen doing exactly what she's doing now.
I think for Governor Palin, a run for President is the only thing that would appeal to her. She isn't going to accept another VP slot either. I think a big part of her wants to give it a go, but my hunch at this point is she's decided to hold off till 2016 or 2020. She's still very young and something seems to be holding her back this time around. I hope I'm wrong because I will always support her, but it just doesn't seem like she is setting the stage for a presidential run in 2012.

He feared the "R" word more than he wanted the job. Beat a black fair and square anywhere other than on a field of play or a ball court, and you're branded a racist.
I agree completely. And I think that he is the only one who could. He can beat Obama at that game, both with his knowledge of economics and problem solving, and with his ability and background as a minister who knows how to deliver comments with emotion and impact.
On the international scene, however, I think he leaves too much to be considered by many as a viable contender. He is the one I would love to see get the nomination, but the GOP good old boys would not get behind him nor would they try another inexperienced person. Obama gave the country enough trouble, being that he had absolutely no leadership or administrative skills. I don't think the GOP would support someone who hadn't been around Washington and learned the ropes on the international issues.
Yet, I don't see anyone who could pound Obama in a debate among the current contenders. And, THAT, is what the GOP needs to reel in the people who vote on flash and not substance, unfortunate as that might seem, we just don't have a current declared candidate who would excite the on-the-fence voters.
For what it's worth, straw polls are generally worthless. If you don't believe me look at how many straw polls Paul and Romney won in 2007-08 compared to how many McCain won. The only exception to that rule is Ames which offers some insight into the outcome of the Iowa caucuses (the top 2 finishers are usually correct, though not necessarily in the correct order). And outside of its possible relevance to the caucuses, even the Ames straw poll doesn't offer much in the way of insight.
In general people who put down straw polls only do so when their candidate didn’t win, and if their candidate wins they are the first to post it.
