Live Thread: Congressional Vote on the Budget Fiasco
US Congress ^ | 8/1/11 | FedGov

Posted on 08/01/2011 11:18:29 AM PDT by central_va

Lawmakers split into Democratic and Republicans camps to hear appeals from their party leaders to approve the deal which emerged from feverish negotiations as the clock ticked toward a Tuesday deadline to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling. Party leaders are hoping for sizable majorities in order to give the deal credibility.

Ok, these bozos(Tea Party excluded) are probably going to vote for this monstrosity today. I thought a live thread might be helpful even though the Congressional Website has no information(as usual) on what time the actual vote might be.

Anyone have a link to the content of the bill? Weren't We the People promised to have access to the text of all bills two weeks prior to their vote in Congress? (Something about "the most transparent and open administration" in history ...) I know the ink hasn't dried on this one yet as it's only just been thrown together over the weekend. But I'd still like to read it.

I can't believe the GOP didn't even try to remove the 1 trillion per year in "stimulus" money from the baseline.

Or defund socialized medicine.

Looks like they've accepted both - it'd be 'extremist' not to.

They’re drafting it right now. They want a bipartisan vote to give it credibility. Virtually every major domestic policy milestone in America that lasted was passed with votes from both parties.

If you have a debt reduction plan, feel free to put it on the table. Congressional leaders don’t have the luxury of being ideologically pure. They have to talk to people with views different from them. In a democracy, no one is going to get everything they want. That’s just the reality of life. Americans are going to wait and see what this deal does. If they don’t like what happens, they can vote their congresscritters out of office next year. But at least now we have a debate, not on whether to spend more but on what to cut. I like where conservatives are now.

At least they could have reduced the debt a little. This seems to only increase the spending slightly less.

This isn’t a democracy. I vote for a representative to do just that. I expect mine to cut spending and not allow any tax increases. I don’t give a damn if my reps are popular on capital hill or if this stinker of a bill passes or if we have a bill by tomorrow. The bond market doesn’t give a crap about our debt ceiling - they want to see adults managing the financial affairs of the US. That means hard decisions to cut spending and standing up to the debt drunk progressive “esteemed collegues”.

Have no idea what you are trying to say to my post. This POS legislation will ultimately ruin our military and bring about tax increases when the “SuperGov” takes over.

This is NOT a democracy—it is (was?) a Republic.

Boehner must be having a problem getting the needed votes. He was supposed to have a presser about 30 min. ago and is late!

Pelosi telling the Dems to vote their conscience. Not pushing Dems for a yes vote.

"Pelosi telling the Dems to vote their conscience. Not pushing Dems for a yes vote."

Ah, so the fix *is* in.

Saw some 'somebody' on the news the other day and he almost choked on the words, "The U.S. will not default on it's debt." At the time I thought, "Uh oh, what does that mean?"

do we have a definite no and yes head count?

I think the politicians are jockying for the covited spots where they can vote no for easy PR cover.
