Publicity from fatal fight affecting officers' morale
Orange County Register ^ | 8/1/11 | Denisse Salazar

The death of a homeless man fatally injured during a fight with Fullerton police has captured the attention of the community and affected morale in the department.

Kelly Thomas, 37, who was schizophrenic, died July 10, five days after the confrontation with six police officers at the Fullerton Transportation Center.

Fullerton police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said the department has received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails from across California and hundreds turned out to protest Saturday morning at the Fullerton police station.

"It's not pleasant to see people in front of the police station calling the officers 'murderers,'" Goodrich said.

"We understand the community is outraged and concerned and what we've said all along is the incident happened, but the chief called for an outside agency to do a transparent investigation of what happened that night," Goodrich said.

They should have been arrested like all the other thugs.

this afternoon on kfi 640 am an anonymous informant

said that the officer who killed kelly was an

ex-lapd officer. he had graduated from the academy

recently and had one eye shot out in a gang fight.

lapd let him go with a settlement.

fullerton picked him up to save money on academy training.

also, kfi played a video and audio of bus riders discussing what they saw as kelly was murdered.

Nachum, guys like this must be lurkers, or they are cops. I guess I am a “cop hater,” because I am repulsed at this kind of behavior. Our former Chief of Police (a former friend until I found out what a total jerk he was) would say that this is “Death by Cop.” Stated more succinctly, “ he wanted to die, so he forced a confrontation with these morons in Blue.”

I'm not a cop hater, but it's hard to justify what was done to this man.

How to resist a beating by an angry small town cop:

1) Have cop friends who will stop him

or

2) Offer the cop your wallet and ask him if he will take a check

or

3) Bend head between legs and kiss your ass goodbye

"The problem is that the 6 involved are still on the streets."

If all 6 cops on the scene unanimously participated in the torture and murder of a disabled man in plain view of the public, the problem is not just these 6 killers. The entire police culture is the problem.

Statistically, if all 6 at the scene did this, then nearly everyone on the Fullerton police force would have done the same. These 6 are not exceptions who just happened to come together.

Fullerton is (for California) a pretty Conservative area. I suspect the Town is pretty quite and the Cops were just blowing off some steam after not having much to do other than eat Donuts for the last 364 days. /s The Man’s face is unrecocnizable...the Cops should face the Death Penalty. Just more Union Goons whom we can’t count on our side anymore. It’s going to be a nasty revolution.

I suppose it's much more pleasant to be beaten and tazed
to death by malignant pus sacs bearing badges.

"The other police should demand these 6 be removed from the force tonight. "

In cop culture, murdering a non-cop is acceptable. But snitching on a fellow cop for murdering a non-cop is the worst thing you can do. The snitch would be punished in a big way, possibly dying in an accident or having a family member die in an accident.

If anyone thinks cops would not do that sort of thing, scroll to the top of this window and read the article.

Murders, call them what they are. The other police should demand these 6 be removed from the force tonight.

The fact that they don't means they are all accessories after the fact.

Police should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us because of the power and trust they are given, but I'd be more than willing to just have them held to the same one they hold us to.

Fullerton's Future is a local blog with excellent updates and solidarity. My oldest brother is a mentally ill homeless person in Fullerton just like Kelly and I regularly look for him at the Armory on Valencia (when open).

The 6 police officers are guilty of murder. The FPD are trying to save face and avoid a public relations nightmare. Very sad. Kelly was calling for "Dad" many times on July 5th. Heartbreaking.

“Yes he was mentally ill. So that gives these policement the right to execute him.. Sounds like Nazi Germany, kill everyone who was old, sick or Jewish.”

And the police knew the man was schizophrenic how? Isn’t hindsight grand?

“And they can’t bully, beat or kill those uppity protestors who are “disrespecting the police” either. It must be stressful.”

Maybe they could shoot some dogs to cheer themselves up?

I wonder the same.

Even further:

If a CCW uses force to save a civilian in such a situation ,then what?

Lots of 37 year old men cry for their dad...

A father's living torture ...to be haunted by the knowledge that your son was crying out for you while he was being beaten to death, and you weren't there.

Hitler loved his dog. Bad people with mental problems can still be a problem, wouldn’t you say?

It’s terrible. Losing your son is bad enough, but that is even worse. I hope he can find peace. I don’t know if I could.
