Don't Believe You Won, Tea Party
EIB Network ^ | August 3, 2011 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: I'm still confused. If Republicans were the ones putting guns to everybody's heads, how come the Democrats got away with all the money? Two-point-four trillion is a pretty good haul even by the Democrat Party's high criminal standards. How can it be said that Obama lost? We got people on our side running around saying that. This was a big win. And you Tea Party people, I want you to beware, there are people trying to convince you that you won big, that you changed the game, that you changed the way things are going, and they are lying to you. Do not give up the task, do not give up the momentum, and don't think that you've won anything here. This is not a victory. I don't care what anybody tries to tell you. They're just trying to shut you up. They're just trying to make you go away. They're trying to make you satisfied. The more you're satisfied, the less rambunctious you're gonna be.

“I give Sarah Palin a pass, however. In the interviews I’ve heard, she appeared to be saying our “success” was in our ability to make the establishment nervous. The Tea Party flexed its young muscle for the first time in politics. We didn’t win, but we did give the other team cause to take notice. She is encouraging further exercise of that muscle. I did not hear her indicate this budget bill was any type of legislative victory.”

I saw one interview of her by Hannity. What you say here is my general impression of what she said. However, I think she should have clearly stated this was a major failure...which it was....instead of trying to “encourage” those duped/cheated when she should be condemning the “establishment” that duped/cheated more. So, I am not sure she really deserves a full pass on this. I’m not endorsing Bachmann yet, but she DID hold the line and never caved. It troubles me that she is getting no credit for doing so.

“We’re in a great position to take the Senate”

We still have to take the House.

Under the constitutional system of CHECKS and balances, a faction that wants to stop government from doing anything can stop it. That was Madison’s purpose, that we remain free from the effects of government unless it was generally agreed that action was necessary.

Defense appropriation was constitutionally limited to a maximum of two years because they feared a standing army. Now we have people believing they earned their SS and Medicare because they paid for it thirty years ago. Our founders should have limited all appropriations to two years.

The tea party was neither played nor duped.

Yes, the deal is crap, but most people know that and that's the point.

Without the tea party there would have been a clean debt ceiling increase and all of the talk right now would be about "green jobs", high-speed rail, and more "stimulus".

Now America has woken up to the fact that we're broke, we're still spending like crazy, and the 'Rats have absolutely nothing to offer on any subject.

So now for the next fifteen months we will all demand a plan to balance the budget, entitlement reform, roll-back of regulations, and a slashing of spending.

The 'Rats will be handcuffed on all of this and the tea party caucus will lead the way to the biggest election day rout this country has ever seen.

It all starts now!

I guess you didn’t hear her on Hannity. She does NOT believe that this was a victory in any way. She considers it a debacle, which it is. Bob

The Republican leadership looks at the lack of activity by the Tea Party this summer versus last summer and believes that the movement is fading. They don’t understand that last year was the run up to off year elections. this year, the effort is in organizing, planning for 2012, as well as analyzing the successes and failures of the 2010 campaign.
Wait til next summer. They ain’t seen nothin yet!

If the tea party won, how come, Boners pal Nancy said that the debt ceiling would need to be raised again in 2013, and the rinos will only give lip service to ending Obummer care. Bonner and the leadership caved from day one.

A successful intervention would have been if we had stopped them cold and forced a shutdown of the government’s non essential services. We could have then had a serious discussion about the size of government services given the size of our wallet.
///
Amen. that is the truth!

not the baloney and low expectations from the “1/3rders”.

even the CNN poll showed we had the support of the VAST majority of Americans. 74% wanted BBA. 65% wanted major spending cuts.
we should have held our ground, and got REAL cuts.
(even tiny real cuts, are better than simply reducing the INCREASE by 2%!!!)
Instead we gave Obama 2 trillion more to spend?!?
instead of cuts now, to force HIS base to fight each other?

and that bill has BUILT IN increases, and allows the 2012 and 2013 budget to be “DEEMED” passed. 10 billion MORE for Pell Grants, yet allows tax cuts and AMT to expire.

another such victory, and we’d lose the war!

and people like DOGHEAD forget the 2011 budget, that Boehner HEROICALLY got a what, 60 billion cut from?
when it was 400 billion higher than before?

or that Boehner helps lead the charge for... TARP ?

...and Europe won’t last until 2013. they’re going down.
this was our ONE chance to batten the hatches for the storm.

any working family knows we should IMMEDIATELY cut.
instead of going another 9 trillion in debt...
(but the 1/3rders say we cut 1 trillion in spending!
...yeah. we cut 1 trillion off the 10 trillion INCREASE!)

We gave them a CC&B bill which lacked only 4 votes in the Senate.
They tabled it without a glance.
We should have sent it back, over and over, saying
“Pass this bill or we shut this place down. Either choice is fine by us.”
///
YES !!!
...we should have pushed all the overwhelming support for it in polls, and dug in.

...instead, Boehner and McConnell couldn’t send “Plan B” over fast enough...

“uh.... no. Name a time when we had the house, the senate, and the white house? I think we had the Senate by one vote about 10 years ago while everyone sat around hoping Strom Thurmond didn’t die. Then Jeffords jumped and it was back to even. We’ve never had CLOSE to the strength the Dems had only 2 years ago.”

Agreed....and even then, given the voting habits of east coast Republicans like Snowe, Collins, Spectre, Chafee, jeffords, et al a reasonable person could legitimately conclude that the Republicans have never had a majority in the Congress at any time during the 21st Century.

I no longer consider a “Republican” elected in any eastern state to be anything other than a Democrat in Disquise.

donath jr in ct should know that!

Obama wins the $2.4 trillion lottery, the Tea Party gets the bill and The Party is establishing a politburo.

You don’t feel like a winner?

We are on the same page there too. Bachmann *did* her part trying to hold that line. I can not express how proud I am of her. This, if for no other reason, ought drive us to pull the lever for her in the voting booth. As president she can nurture and provide cover for the next wave of Tea Party politicians. I give her top honors. (And I'll take a moment to express thanks to my Senator Ron Johnson for being a patriot true to his constituency too!)
