Markets present unhappy birthday surprise for Obama

The Obama administration struggled Thursday to explain its plans for turning around the economy as stock markets plummeted for the second time this week.

“The White House doesn’t create jobs,” said presidential spokesman Jay Carney. “Together, the White House and Congress create policies that allow for greater job creation.”

The steep drop in equities that wiped out all of the gains for the year coincided with President Obama’s 50th birthday. At a celebration in Chicago on Wednesday night, the president said he is still learning about details of the recession that rocked his administration in the first year.

“We just found out a week ago that the economy the last few months in 2008 was even worse than we had realized,” Mr. Obama told supporters at a fundraiser. “I mean, the economy had contracted by 8 percent. It was the worst economy we had ever seen.”

He cautioned that he needs more time to fulfill his campaign promise of economic prosperity.

Still blaming Bush, I see.

What a complete and utter failure. The only thing Zero has succeeded in is making Jimmy Carter look like a masterful leader.

“The White House doesn’t create jobs,” said presidential spokesman Jay Carney. “Together, the White House and Congress create policies that allow for greater job creation.”

And, the best policy they can create, in order to allow greater job creation, is a policy to stop creating policies. Get the damn government out of the way and the private sector will rebound more rapidly and more robustly.

I’ve got a shovel ready job for the administration and pretty much most of congress( and the government won’t have to purchase the shovels)

If we’re only halfway there, can I be thrown under the bus? I’ll get off any way I can at this point.

I differ in my opinion. They are not insane, they are purposeful and intentional. nobama and his minions are anti-Free-America.

nobama hates you, hates your family, hates your success and freedom, hates Free America, hates Americans, hates the Constitution and hates the Bill of Rights. nobama is a hate crime foisted upon America. nobama is the Destroyer.

Everything nobama does is intentional.

God help us all.

The White House doesn’t create jobs, said presidential spokesman Jay Carney.

You can't make this stuff up.

Jay Carney may understand government does not create jobs, but Barack Obamajaad certainly thinks it does.

Gee...what about all those new releases about the jobs “created or saved” by the Stimulus?

If things get better, you’ll be sure they’ll take all the credit.

OK, here’s my cartoon if I had the ability to draw ... panel 1, Obama is looking at a birthday cake covered in lit candles ... panel 2 he’s blowing them out with the caption “I wish my economic plan would take hold quickly” ... panel 3, DJIA chart showing the plunge, caption “be careful what you wish for ...”

“You can’t make this stuff up.”

Credit Carney with a rare bout of honesty. Of course, it would have been even more accurate to say the White House destroys jobs: the last 30 months are pretty clear evidence of that.

The White House doesn’t create jobs, but the current resident sure knows how to destroy them. I think it’s about time we evict the current resident.

“Together, the White House and Congress create policies that allow for greater job creation.”

As usual, they lie when they speak. They WH and Reid/Pelosi create policies that create "needs" for expansion of government, and create public sector jobs.

What's the unemployment rate in DC?
