CNN is reporting now (I know, I know- I hate them too)that the Chinook was returning from a night rescue mission where another unit had been pinned down. The target was some bomb-maker- doesn't sound high value, but who knows.
I wonder if that could explain the large number of Special Forces personnel on one chopper.

I hope I’m wrong.

*****

I think you are right. Almost immediately Pakistan officials killed people on the ground who were in any way helpful to the US forces getting bin Laden. This attack on the helicopter full of Special Forces was just a huge show of the true feelings of the ISI.

I'm with you..Very odd indeed. From what we know currently (thanks to all the loose lips) Team Six was a high speed, low drag team that took the fight to our enemies anywhere BECAUSE they were that damn good. Why would you advertise that you just lost some of your "best of the best"?

I hope it is a concocted story to provide cover for team six operators and their families after all the limp wrist pougue's in Washington were running their sucks exposing this team.

Nice to know I’m not the only one who thinks that. Evil knows no boundaries.

RIP. This doesn't bode well for those they were dispatched to rescue.

Will Obama rethink is Afghanistan drawdown which his commanders said was not recommended?

I read that it was an Afghan rescue mission. This was a set up. Why would we send our dream team on such a mission?. These guys were sent to die and heads will roll. I just wish I could help find the people and pull the trigger myself.

Most of the casualties happening in Afghanistan are due to leadership incompetence. Just got back from a tour there and what goes on would piss off everyone that’s worn the uniform. From running MATV’s up a dirt road with a high number of IEDs, while a route clearance package was running up an ajacent paved road. Chalk one up for the bad guys when the MATV was blown up.

How about sitting at the gate waiting to roll outside the wire because our Risk Assessment had spelling errors and we had to resubmit it. But the units running on the routes we were to clear, given the okay to roll out in front of us.

Or when they dropped notices 3 days prior to an OP so the “civilians” would know we were coming and wouldn’t be alarmed. Yea, we were suppose to find 250 Taliban and found 0, that’s Zero. Rules of engagement that put our lives in danger so they can protect people who hate us and who help the taliban because they’re more afraid of them, then us.

And on and on and on I could go!

I went over there with an open mind and the desire to help those people, but came home with the mind set, “Kill em all and let God sort them out”

I have one question regarding us being in Afghanistan and if it’s worth losing anymore of our people. If every Afghani died tonight, would the rest of the world even know it tomorrow?

A simple destruction of the capital city was all that was needed for afghan, should have taken only a month.

You will recall that that is what we did. Then we stayed.

Read about it in Marcus’ book : Lone Survivor
But wasn’t totally sure that’s what you were talking about.
Thanks for the link ~

I remember it now...thanks for reminding me.

It seems like a bad dream. It can’t be happening but there it is.

If what I think has happened has happened, something or many things had to be very wrong for it to have happened in the first place.

Her audacious, hopeful boss, on the other hand...

Ok, seriously ... he's the President. Just about every moment of his day, and his family's day, is closely observed and monitored. How would he even go about orchestrating something like this? It's not like the Secret Service or White House staff (again, I despise Jarrett and Daley - but they're not insane either) or DoD staff are going to allow themselves to be used as cutouts for the orchestrated murder of American servicemen.

I know the Night Stalkers out of I believe Ft. Campbell in Kentucky do alot of transporting for special ops. I can’t recall if that’s the 160th or not, but if it is they are the best of the best at what they do - equivalent to Seal Team 6 when it comes to flying birds.

There are those who'd say that the inverse of your question is equally relevant.
