Did Perry Even Vote For Reagan?

Posted on 08/15/2011 5:41:08 PM PDT by Minus_The_Bear

Rick Perry was a Democrat until Karl Rove convinced him to switch parties and run as a Republican against Jim Hightower for Agriculture Commissioner.

Perry is always mentioning Reagan... But no Yellow-Dog Texas Democrat who was a chairman for Al Gore in 1988 would have voted for Reagan. Some Democrats would have... but not a leading member of the Texas party.

Perry is just too slick. He is not conservative at all.

BOTH never voted for Reagan.

Can you prove that, or are you just assuming?

Has he endorsed him this year?

I don't know if he's endorsed Rick Perry yet but when talking about the 2012 GOP candidates he did say Rick Perry was the most Reaganesque of the group.

God works in mysterious ways.

And your opinion could be heresy to another.

So in a replay of the same track that Perry and Romney supporters take of dismantling Reagan to sell their ex-liberal man, you want to try and convince us that Reagan used to be pro-abortion?

You support Mitt Romney’s claim that “Reagan was adamantly pro-choice”?

"Back in 1992 Senator Gore was a conservative Democrat."

That's an outrageous lie and you know it. He was NEVER a Conservative, period, neither in the Senate nor in the House. His voting record was hardly different from Ted Kennedy's. In 1988, the year he ran for President, his record was 91% liberal. In 1992, it was a perfect 100% liberal. As one of his constituents who NEVER voted for him, I well remember.

In 1984 when Perry was enlisting for Democrat leadership, Texas went 64% for Reagan, Perry did not vote for Reagan, ...

Can you provide a source for this claim? By the way, Perry has stated he voted for Bush41 over Dukakis in 1988.

Unless you can get the TX Chairman of Gore’s campaign in 1988 to prove he somehow switched over and voted for Bush (nevermind Reagan previously !), you know how he voted as an elected Democrat officeholder. As for Slick Willard, he PUBLICLY stated he was “NEVER” for Reagan-Bush, and as I stated, I don’t believe he has ever voted Republican unless it was for his name.

It is a safe assumption that Perry voted for his party in 1980 as he had in 1976, and when you realize that Perry was running for office in 1984 and that in 1988, he sought out the position of Campaign Chairman for Al Gore against HW Bush, then yes, Perry was just a normal democrat official, and activist, voting for his party.

>>Oh, you think that, like Rush Limbaugh, Perry never voted for Reagan? <<

Your assertion is more than a little disingenuous.

Rush Limbaugh didn’t vote for Reagan because he didn’t register to vote until the age of 35.Rush was a conservative WAY before then.

He did NOT vote for Jimmy Carter.

He did NOT vote for Walter Mondale.

If you were trying to draw a similarity between Rush Limbaugh and Rick Perry in this way, you failed. ;-)

Gingrich, Perry, Bush, McCain pick your RINO and we are no further away from a depression than we are now. The Establishment has brought us this far into Communism, do you think they will not control any of the above? No. I am afraid that it is too late for any one candidate to make a whit of difference in our future unless the people unite behind true conservative candidates at all levels of government. I am ordinarily an optimist, and not one to give up in a righteous battle, but with so many “consdervatives” willing to back a RINO, I am just glad that I am closer to the end of my life than to the beginning of it.

Of course not. I am just showing how ridiculous the claims are that somehow Perry is pro-choice or a RINO. By using the same citeria people use to tear down Perry, you would also have to determine that Reagan was a RINO. Absolutley ridiculous in both cases.

Back in 1992 Senator Gore was a conservative Democrat.

LOL!! JOKE OF THE DAY....What's the punch line?

Yes, they existed in abundance back then. Many of them later became Republicans.

Well, then, he wasn't even close back then - not even at the starting gate.

Rick Perry:

"As a compassionate state, we know that for our children to succeed, they must not only be healthy, but educated.

The future leaders of our two nations are learning their fractions and their ABC’s in classrooms all along this border. Immigrants from around the world are being taught in Texas classrooms, and our history is rich with examples of new citizens who have made great contributions.

"We must say to everyTexas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers.

"That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders, the doors of higher education must be open to them. The message is simple: educacion es el futuro, y si se puede."

He is not conservative at all.

Who is Rick Perry? - Part II: A Texas governor’s pro-life legacy

Perry's signed bills against human trafficking (HB 1372, 4008 & SB 11 of '07), on increased border security (TX Rangers on the border; HB1 of '07), for tougher employer sanctions (HB 1196 of '07), on document fraud (HB 126 of '07) and signed Voter ID. Source: http://www.txcc.org/illegal-immigration & Reuters (Voter ID signing)

Perry also got a ban on driver's licenses for illegals too (SB 1). ID measure passed quietly, while sanctuary cities bill died noisily

Texas has seen its Debt to GDP ratio drop under Perry even now. It was almost 23% a few years ago, now it's 18% and dropping.

Watch the debt clock for Texas. Spending is dropping, debt is dropping, debt to gdp is dropping. Revenues and GDP are increasing.

Texas S&P credit rating increased in part because it still has money in a rainy day fund, the state economy is growing despite Obamanomics and budgets are under control.

Rick Perry, Nikki Haley push cut, cap and balance pledge

Rick Perry backs abortion, balanced budget [and marriage] amendments

You're so right! It's clear Perry's not conservative at all he's just Romney with a Texas drawl. /s

It isn’t up to me to prove that a democrat office candidate and Campaign Chairman for the liberal democrat Al Gore was secretly voting for the opposition party that he was openly working and campaigning against.

You need to prove your stupid, nonsensical claim.

Well, since Perry has publicly said he voted for Bush 41 over Dukakis, your argument kinda falls apart.
