Two themes have already emerged in the still-early 2012 presidential contest:Republicans are running against Washington and President Obama is running against part of Washington, the Congress that gave him his early legislative achievements. The newest entrant to the GOP race is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who touched on one of the most emotional and volatile issues sitting on the nation's debate table: border security, illegal drugs from Mexico and illegal immigrants. In his announcement speech in South Carolina on Saturday, Perry said:America’s standing in the world is in peril, not only because of disastrous economic policies, but

Rick Perry got a ‘D’ on illegal immigration.

He is against E verify, Arizonas immigration bill.

He gave illegals instate tuition to colleges.

This past July he is seen in a photo op with Acorn.(poor judgement)

This guy sticks his finger up to see which way the wind is blowing.

Government will tax AND regulate marijuana if legalized. That is a given.

And there is no comparison between alcohol and drugs. Alcohol is culturally accepted. Wine is a part of Western Civilization and has been for thousands of years, as archaeologists have discovered.

My family was devastated by drug addiction and abuse. My sister is border-line schizo from marijuana use, BIL can’t seem to wean himself off of methadone, and their son has tried to commit suicide. Drugs don’t affect just the person who uses; it destroys families.

Try reading up on what opium did to China during the 19th century.

Yeah, you just keep on laughing.

Try reading the history of this country.

Taxation, regulation, and special interests will make it impossible for a person to grow their own weed. This has been true in the past with tobacco. It was just a few years ago that laws changed so a person could grow tobacco on their own property.

The big tobacco companies would never let slip a huge opportunity to control a commodity like marijuana if it were legalized.

But you said,

Big corporations will move to take over production of marijuana, just adding it to their tobacco production. Then they’ll use millions of dollars to influence Congress and choke off the right of individuals to grow their own, with BATFE enforcing the new regulations.

Government will tax AND regulate marijuana if legalized.

Already done. They sell starter plants.

But I ‘actually’ said: LEGALIZATION SOLVES NOTHING...

Big corporations will move to take over production of marijuana, just adding it to their tobacco production...

********************************

The result will be taxes, regulation, and a Black Market.

The fact that they, and I’m assuming by ‘they’ you mean the Feds, are selling starter plants doesn’t surprise me.

How about building that border fence, Rick?

Perry’s track record on the border is about as bad as Obama...esp with in-state tuition for illegals

He mentioned aerial drones on the border before. Looks like it's happening:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry says Predator drones should patrol Texas border (2010)

Texas gets a second aerial drone for border security (2011)

In-state tuition passed with veto proof majorities in 2001 (HB 1403) and was tightened up in 2005 (SB 1528) by unanimous vote of the legislature.

What governor is going to oppose 100% of his legislature? Let's come to the real world.

One of the provisions of SB 1528 requires a non-citizen/permanent resident file an affidavit with the educational institution with intent to apply for Permanent Resident status as soon as able to do so.

You can always check the bills listed above or here's a two page summary called "Residency and In-State Tuition" (Acrobate PDF) from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board outlining HB 1403 and the changes made with SB 1528.

And there is no comparison between alcohol and drugs.

Alcohol IS A DRUG!

Earlier in the 1900's there was a time that pot was legal and booze illegal, and making cocaine, etc illegal is a fairly recent development.

It is a shame that in the so called land of the free and home of the brave I have to show ID to get OTC cold medicine!

Thank you, drug warriors! Typical of those who have those with addiction problems in their live that they try to regulate everyone else!

Not all crimes are vices and not all vices should be crimes. Or else freedom doesn't really exist, does it?
