On one side are the hard-liners, many of them religious, who embrace the "tea party" movement's hostility to Washington and are more likely to lack college educations.
On the other are the more secular and moderate, open to government action to protect the environment and regulate business and more likely to have attended college.

What?!?
Exsqueeze me 'mr' West but I am personally offended by that snide, elitist remark. It is downright insulting to millions of Americans who never set foot on a college campus -- like me, you self-centered close-minded asshat.

And not going to college wasn't due to any low test scores 'mr' BONEHEAD. It was mostly due to other priorities: like not having the funds, or having to find a JOB after HS to support your family (mother and/or siblings), or join the military and fight for your country (there was this war thingy called Vietnam and the enemy was Communism).

Additionally 'mr' West of the 'Washington Bureau' (you must be very impotent to get that job) I didn't NEED to go to college. Everything I needed to learn in Mechanical Engineering I learned by MYSELF. And I was told by Licensed, Registered, Professional Engineers, that I SHOULD gave taken the 'PE Test'. As to them I WAS an Engineer, I just lacked a piece of stinking PAPER! Oh, speaking of 'college papers' you wouldn't have happened to see any from that guy sitting in the Oval Office, now would you ..... nah ..... I didn't think so.

In conclusion 'mr' West of the 'Washington Bureau', take your college attending 'moderates' and stick them up your as patoot -- sideways.

Quote from the article ... “I don’t think the women in the Midwest, women in the West, necessarily bring to the election decision a favorable attitude toward Texas men,” Hill said. “I don’t think a lot of them are saying, ‘I hope a rancher comes into my life.’”

I’d have to disagree as a Midwestern woman. Which one sounds like he or she could run a farm (hard-working, diligent, decisive, sensible ...) then go from there.

My answer would probably be Palin :-)but Perry has declared so definitely interested. My FIL says Cain is the man because only the good guys are named Herman.

Perry, warts and all, is light years better than Mittens.

And personally, I would sing praises to God for $1.90 gas.

The Bush disaster is what Obama and his handlers want to run against. Perry, fairly or unfairly, hands them this on a silver platter.

I hope Obama tries to run against Bush! Sure, this worked in 2008 but in 2012 it'll only show that Obama has not accomplished anything in four years. Why should the voters give him another four? Let Obama try to turn Perry into Bush and roll back the clock four years. Even the most simple-minded swing voter ought to be able to see through that.

we will either move towards a global citizenship and a global currency, or smash globalism once and for all and restore the American economy and real, constitutional money. I have no doubt that Perry is a globalist, until he convinces me otherwise.

Globalism is here to stay. We live in a much smaller world. 1930s style isolationism will never happen. We have a global language (English), a global culture (Hollywood) and a global currency (the dollar). What we need are leaders who understand that in our modern, global world, America needs to continue being the top dog, not leaders (Obama) who feel that America has been top dog for long enough and it's only fair we step down and acquiesce this leadership position to other countries.

Don’t forget September 12,2001! George Bush led us out of the rubble that was ground zero, the breach in the wall of the Pentagon, and that hole in the ground in Pennsylvania that is the monument to men and women who SELF-sacrifice willingly to save others.

Or September 14: Which of the candidates can you imagine standing on that pile of what had been the Towers on 9-12, draping his or her arm around rescuers, holding them up, promising to hear them?

( obama would take his time coming back from vacation, would show up a week late, in dress shoes and a suit, and his ice cream would melt down the backs of the first responders.)

Maybe you need to remind your FIL of the very notorious bad guy named Cain.....:}

BINGO. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Wait until they get to her actual policy. I am sure Perry is on it as we speak.

While I am sure Perry knows Palin's record, after all they are friends and she supported him for governor, he will not be bashing Palin, nor will Palin be bashing Perry. If she gets in they will both be bashing bambi and promoting their record. Perry's 10 years, even with all the warts, are likely to be more influential than Palin's who has less experience but also fewer warts.

Then again, most voters are not political junkies and base their opinions on image, sound bites, headlines, and personality, so I don't know how much the actual record of Perry or Palin will matter. It matters a lot here at FR but ARE political junkies.

Globalism is here to stay.

100 years after they said that in the Roman Senate, there were goats grazing in the Forum.

The "globe" is populated by illiterate and heathen savages, and also by postmodern, cruel oriental despots and their slaves.

The more "integrated" the economy, the less freedom and the less security we have in America.

In 20 years, either globalism will have ceased to exist or America will be a memory, our people enslaved and our liberties a legend that you tell your children and grandchildren at your peril.

Are you alright, normy?

So that means that, if you close your eyes and listen, Rick Perry talks like a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Business School. I could vote for him anyway and so could a lot of others. Like you wrote: memories of W-era $1.90 a gallon for gasoline and actual jobs will make voters remember real living in the pre-Marxist era.

Please cite the reference for that statement.

The term globalism is like the term Rino subject to misdefinition by many conservatives. Globalism means that certain activities of trade, academic cooperative joint research, travel, education and living occur on a global scale.

Conservative global conspiracy is like all encompassing RINO creep, not a valid definition of actual globalism

Nice job advocating for your guy - also nice job making my point about Perry for me.

What's gone, or going, is the 1945-2001 world. Perry and Romney either don't understand, or don't care, about the danger to America of accepting globalism.

On another thread, you posted a great and comprehensive article in response to the usual litany of anti-Perry slams. I found it quite enlightening. You should post it frequently for those who are skeptical as was I before reading it.

I will take my time choosing among Perry, Palin and Bachmann but would encourage all three for now. The conservative movement should strive for as great unanimity as possible behind ONE of them when the time for actual primaries and caucuses is at hand. By then, the minor candidates will be gone and we can concentrate on seeing that we have neither the embarrassment of Slick Willard or the rolling eyeballs or the spinning beanie propeller of Ron Paul.

Meanwhile Rick Perry is fortunate to have folks like you on his team. It speaks well for him. Perhaps our country will also be fortunate for that fact.

“Texas” will not be a “HUGE negative” — OBAMA is the HUGE negative.

Perry and Romney are NOT alike and it seems only pro-another candidate posters want to say something so patently false.

This election will be more like 1980 than anything else.

You wish Perry’s appeal were an illusion but quite obviously it is not, and your comment about him being a “globalist” is just so much campaign pap for your fellow (my candidate isn’t Perry) posters.
