TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Republican Arizona state senator says he has formed an exploratory committee to examine a possible run next year for the congressional seat held by Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Sen. Frank Antenori, of Tucson, made extensive public comments last week about the committee but made his formal announcement Monday before a Republican women's group in Tucson.

The Houston doctors say that her recovery is miraculous. I believe them. I believe in her miracle, even if she is a Democrat. I have seen no secrecy on their part. They held many press meetings. If you have knowledge to dispute her recovery, then you are more knowledgeable than I.

“I believe in her miracle, even if she is a Democrat.”

Then you are a sucker. According to her staff, she has trouble with big words. Ever read any legislation? Right now, she just votes as she is told to vote. OK, she did that before being shot as well.

Even before being shot, she divided her time between DC & Houston. As one of her constituents, I find that appalling. She also won by 1% of the vote last time, while outspending her opponent and lying about her record and support. She also has a history of standing in the well of the House, prepared to change her vote if Pelosi needed her to do so - is THAT a courageous person?

The TV anchor who was injured in Iraq suffered a similar but less serious wound. He has still not returned to work. She should not run in 2012.

If she were a Republican the media would be demanding access to her medical records and asking that she step down from her office.

The Houston doctors say that her recovery is miraculous.

Miraculous recovery for someone who took what she did would be being able to walk, speak, and understand verbal commands etc. I saw two women have miraculous recoveries from head trauma. Both were in accidents. Yea several years later both were somewhat functional. One could read and carry on a basic conversation. That compared to where they were immediately after injury was a miracle. I knew another guy a patient where I once worked who had been in a nursing home 5 years with a head injury. In many ways it was like talking to a child. The next time I saw him he was living on his own in an apartment. His recovery even from where I first met him was miraculous.

I have some knowledge because I hung around a spinal and head injury rehab unit for a few months for my wifes spinal cord rehab and I've worked in nursing homes.

Maybe you should read this article Gabrielle Giffords Makes Debt Ceiling Vote; No Decision on Re-Election Campaign Where are HER comments at? Do you not find that strange? I don't. She obviously can function somewhat which is indeed miraculous. Yes in another year maybe longer she may make a lot more miraculous progress. But should her district go without full time representation?

By all means she should receive full retirement compensation as well as medical care as this was on the job injury. Beyond that she should get no better breaks than what you, me, the average person next door should get. I hope she recovers 100%. But I know most of the time it takes several years if ever to gain it back.

They'd be demanding she step down, blasting her for neglecting her constituents. If Giffords were in a heavy Dem district, she'd have already been eased out by now. They don't want to risk her resigning since it means a Republican would probably win it.

I believe what the Houston doctors have said about her “miraculous recovery” their words. If she is still mentally incapacitated, she should not be voting. But I don’t know who decides that at this point. If she is still mentally deficient, then she should be replaced in the next election. In such a case, I would both work and vote against her, if I were in her district.

The woman is a Democrat, therefore she was Mentally Incapacitated long before the Shootings took place.

I can only hope she achieves the best outcome in her recovery. Too bad she will just end up being a Martyr for the Liberal cause. It is unfortunate that people think that Congress is a Rehabilitation Center though.

Everyone is scared to admit the obvious. A person in her condition has no business being an elected rep. Period. What happened was terrible. That has nothing to do with her current fitness for the job.

Republicans should hammer Dems through the wall for using a shooting victim as a political prop to further their own ends and question every vote she makes on competency grounds. Dems wheeled an incoherent Robert Byrd into many votes that he could no longer read nor understand. It disgusted me then and what they are doing with Giffords disgusts me even more.

If Repbus would get their tails out there with the TRUTH of how people in her district are being ‘disenfranchised’ of their constitutional representation, and how Dems are acting like the ghouls they are, then they would have a chance at winning. As long as they cower in fear, Dems will keep exploiting a bad situation.

I believe that she probably will choose not to run in 2012. But even if she does, I believe that she will NOT be returned to Congress by the Tuscon electorate. I also believe that any Republican efforts to oust her for mental incapacity prior to the 2012 elections will be explosively detrimental to Republicans.

In all likelyhood I believe the reality of her injury will make another campaign highly difficult if not impossible. I don't see it happening. Being able to walk into congress for a vote is one thing. Being able to campaign, make speeches, and return to a full time schedule in DC is a completely different matter. Being able to function at home is not the same as being able to work. Believe me I know. I retired medically because I lost the mental and physical ability to do my job.

Congress does need to set some stricter cognitive standards and rules of resonable mental fitness for holding office. That goes for both parties.

I agree completely with this. With Cong. Reps, they have to run every two years. If they suffer a mental disabling event, they will be subject to a re-election relatively soon. With Senators, it's different, as they have six year terms. Something needs to be done here. I have no idea, except possibly a temporary appointmemt to replace a disabled Senator. If this scenario (Gifford's) had happened to a Senator, some State could be screwed for five plus years.

Mentally deficient is a subjective term. The question is can she handle the responsibilities of voting on legislation which can not only effect her own constituency but all of America.

My understanding is she is operating at a “diminished level” and we do not need anymore “diminished” mental capabilities in Washington then we already have.

Sadly, with today's HORRIBLE media, anyone who runs against her will be the most awful person since Hitler!!!

IF she had her constiuents needs in mind, she wouuld take a PASS on this election and say she'll come back in 2 years to run for that seat again.....but hey, she's a DEM....not going to happen.

she really doesn’t need to read, write or actually be able to understand what’s going on to vote that way Pelosi tells her. It probably helps if she has no cognitive ability actually.

I do hope she does decide to leave but it would not surprise me if she stayed for the sympathy vote.
