Why Are US Army Soldiers’ Pants Breaking ?
gizmo ^ | 09/01/11

It seems their pants—which are completely new and supposed to be more durable than previous models—can't survive the rigors of the desert. They're ripping apart seemingly at random.

The new pants seemed perfectly fine. They use tightly stitched flame-resistant Defender M fabrics and Christian at Kit Up! says their "crotch design" is fine! But they can't survive up to the daily life of Army soldiers, and they get ripped right, left and center. The problem is so bad that the Army had to get back to select a new fabric, 40% stronger than the current material.

I wonder if the wealthiest nation on earth could treat our volunteer soldiers any worse?

I’d look at bid rigging and some quality control payoff issues. QC inspectors at the point source should be checking out the strength of the material and the construction of the pants. Someone is not doing their job.

Funny— I was just talking to my husband about this last night on Skype (he’s over in the sandy box.) Michael Yon had some pictures of these pants on soldiers posted so I asked hubby about it. My husband said that the material is terribly thin and after only 3 months his pants have holes in them also.

Did the crotch and armpits ever rot out? I remember during TET, when having problems connecting with a shower point for a month, my jungle fatigues started falling apart. I also had crotch rot to my knees and smelled like a goat, the things we do for our country.

The Soldier Systems Center at Natick redesigned the uniforms a few years ago. Quality does not appear to have been in the program manager’s vocabulary for those projects. The program manager, a quarter master type, got promoted. The combat soldiers have their uniforms fail.

Note: Few people who have experience with the U.S. Army thinks quartermaster types are good for anything except stopping stray bullets.

They're ripping apart seemingly at random.

Or are they ripping apart randomly at the seams?

Our Muslim overlords are not amused. US soldiers showing their butts to Muslim superiors? At least they are not farting.

In related news, politicians’ pants keep spontaneously catching fire. A cause has not yet been determined.

"I was stationed at Ft. Bliss and even though it was blazing hot I always wore winter weights because they held up much better."

Yeah, that "rip-stop" crap sucked.
