Obama Pushes Congress to Pass Transportation Bill (Use the $1 trillion in "stimulus" that passed)
Fox News ^ | 9/3/2011 | ap

President Barack Obama is calling on Congress to pass a transportation bill to ensure funding for roads and construction jobs, arguing that failure to do so would spell economic disaster.

Republicans say they support passing the bill, but Obama says time is running out and "political posturing" may stand in the way.

"There's no reason to put more jobs at risk in an industry that has been one of the hardest-hit in this recession," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address. "There's no reason to cut off funding for transportation projects at a time when so many of our roads are congested, so many of our bridges are in need of repair and so many businesses are feeling the cost of delays.

"This isn't a Democratic or a Republican issue -- it's an American issue," the president said.

Obama issued his call as he prepares to make a major jobs speech to a joint session of Congress on Thursday in which he's expected to push for bipartisan action on tax credits and infrastructure spending to get the economy out of its doldrums. A new jobs report just found the economy stopped adding jobs in August and unemployment stood at 9.1 percent.

Federal highway programs, and the fuel taxes that pay for them, will expire Sept. 30 unless Congress acts, and funds for construction projects across the country would be held up. That follows the partial shutdown this summer of the Federal Aviation Administration over a showdown between the House and Senate that led to thousands of layoffs of workers on airport construction and other projects.

So what good would all of these fancy new roads be if we cannot eventually afford to drive anything on them with the exception of a Schwinn or sneakers? At this rate, they would just become nothing but oversized sidewalks.

"This isn't a Democratic or a Republican issue -- it's an American issue," the president said.

I feel we need to get deadly serious about this:

"This isn't a Democratic or a Republican issue -- it's an American a UNION issue," the president said.

I’d rather have dirt roads that we own, than diamond coated ones that enslave generations for nothing, some image crud...to hell with the image, lets get real, were broke Jim, and i don’t want to give those crooks another dime...the federal government should be funded by excess savings from the states, the fed should not have the right to raise money in any way..no taxes at all...thats the only way to hold them accountable...

Lest we forget the parameters......

From the essay thoughts on Texas

“The roads in the Bay State are falling apart and a third are said to be in poor condition. The cost of repairs to vehicles is in effect a tax, a bad road tax. The governor Romney and others are unable to do the simple task of keeping the roads up. Meanwhile, the roads in Texas are good to excellent and there are far more miles than in the state up north. We must not be guilty of giving Gov Perry the total credit for the excellence of the Texas roads, from interstates and city freeways down to the thousands of miles of well designed and paved farm roads, but he administered the state that developed and maintained the excellence.

There are many other points that can be made about many different aspects of governance and aspects of ordinary life, but the status of the roads is an indicator that carries the principle. The roads are an indicator of excellence and stewardship. The bad roads are also an indicator of the inability to cope or purposeful disregard and perhaps priorities that are misplaced.”

The money proposed for highways has already been collected and misspent by some. New money will be misspent again. Let Massachusetts and the others who squandered their money suffer alone.

The Pelosi/Reid/Obozo recession has hit everybody really hard...

My neighbor got a pre-declined credit card in the mail

CEO’s are now playing miniature golf.

Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen.

If the bank returns your check marked “Insufficient Funds,” you call them and ask if they meant you or them.

Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America .

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children’s names.

My cousin had an exorcism but couldn’t afford to pay for it, and they re-possessed her!

A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .

When Bill and Hillary travel together, they now have to share a room.

The Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas is now managed by Somali pirates.

Finally....I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, Obozo,Pelosi, Reid, Maxine Waters, wars, non wars which are wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, our IRAs, illegals, etc., I called our local suicide hotline.

My call for help got forwarded to a call center in Pakistan. When I told them I was suicidal. They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck and my jacket size.

Last time I checked we have roads in our town - and “infrastructure” doesn’t bring foreign dollars into the United States (you know, old-fashioned economic growth).

The only infrastructure being maintained by stimulus is the Democrat union donation and GOTV backbone.

Taxpayers don’t benefit. And the economy doesn’t benefit. Only Dem constituencies benefit.

I thought Bammy put up signs all over the country about bridges-roads-etc that were being paid for with the $787 billion stimulus bill from a couple of years ago.

Where did that money go & what roads, bridges are being built?
By now, those projects should be well under way.

Just like a kid raised in Hawaii to want to push road construction jobs in the dead of the oncoming WINTER. Darn few states can do much road construction with winter conditions.

Wisconsin & other states have 3 seasons:
Summer/ Winter & MUD.

The $787 billion “stimulus” was on top of the hundred's of billion spent in the transportation bills that get passed every year as a part of the appropriations.

All congress has to do is pass a 2012 budget and tell Obama that's it, no more supplemental.
