For those who are wondering what the DC Chapter is doing now that Walter Reeds Friday Night Support the Troops Rallies are done, we, or some of us, are still going strong in Olney, Maryland.
We just completed our 293rd Saturday in Olney. While DC Chapter members are not always present due to FReeps in DC, including 9/12 and Tea Party rallies and Becks 8/28 rally, the local American Legion fills in.
We started the Olney Rally after some FReepers coming to the DC Chapters 2005 Christmas Party saw the moonbats on the corner. We were soon out on the corner supporting our troops. Maryland is notorious for its liberalism, but Olney is one of the more conservative strong holds. This is one reason why part of Olney has been jerry mannered 15 miles into uber-liberal Donna Edwards district in Prince Georges County. The honks, waves and salutes from passing motorists out number the "Quackers" support 100 to 1.
Patriots in Olney this Saturday include Dave (Army, WWII) and friend Janet, Kim, Lurker Bill, GunsAreOK, [Mrs] Trooprally and myself. Several Olney regulars took the Labor Day weekend off after 332 Fridays at Walter Reed for some well deserved R n R..
We always welcome FReepers, Eagles, PGR, and other patriots at Olney. We start setting up around 10AM and are on the corner holding signs well before the moonbats arrive at 10:30. The moonbats leave at 11:30AM with us packing up when they are out of sight.
This Saturday it rained a little as we started to set up, then again a little before we started to pack up. As we were driving away the rain stopped. Better in Olney than for the last several weeks at Walter Reed where we dodged rain and Hurricane Irene. Last Saturday, after we left Walter Reeds transfer of the patients, Olney received 2 ½ inches of rain from Irene.
Photos are by [Mrs] T so as at Walter Reed, do not expect to see her much. Of course if iMacMan comes out with his camera - hint, hint - we just might get a couple of her.
BELOW: Several of our supporters.
BELOW LEFT: Legionnaire Dave with a popular sign. BELOW RIGHT: Daves friend with Kim. Dave is in the back ground talking with GunsAreOK and myself.
BELOW LEFT: Lurker Bill looking a little glum with the rain clouds approching. BELOW RIGHT: GunsAreOK and myself.
BELOW: And the Quackers.
If you live in northern VA and want a short cut to Olney See Post 39 Here. It's an easy 20 minute drive from the American Legion Bridge.
A special Thanks to a FReeper FRiend for enhancing the original plain type directions.
The Archive of Olney FReeps is here or in the LINKS section of Trooprally's ABOUT Page.

It has been almost a year since an AAR had been written, but we are still out in Olney.

Yep, a little light of truth sends the cockroaches into hiding.
[Mr] T
Thanks for posting West’s info.
Hope the moonbats don’t hear about the free lunch.
[Mr] T
Well, it’s good to have an AAR from some place. Wouldn’t want you guys to get complacent. God bless the ancient hippies little hearts for sticking to their g.....peace.
Welcome to Olney! It may not be as exciting as WR, but we are keeping busy. Yea, the average age of the moonbats is up there. We have a strong Quaker establishment here in Olney, including a retirement home and school. But out of the whole community, there are only about 6 that stand out on the corners. The others understand that the freedoms our soldiers die for gives them the freedom to practice their ideals.
[Mr] T
Anyone else find it interesting that the Quaker signs all condemn war, but the message does not seem to resonate in the community. Notice on the sign behind the Quakers, it announces a meeting of the Warriors.
Warriors, local high school mascot.
The Quaker signs are actually more bland than when they first started. They had “Hands Off Iran”, signs with our soldiers body count, etc. Those signs are one big reason we are out there. If the Quakers were protesting ALL countries at war, not just America, then we probably would have let them protest. But it seems to them that only America causes war. All the other countries are virgins.
In the last year or so the Quakers have even sported small American flags. Pretty contradictory for a belief that is not supposed to have allegiance to any country. They belief that they are citizens of the world.
Maybe that is why only a handful of Quakers are out on the corner even when the handful pleaded for support at one of their community meetings. Most recognize that people have died to give them the right to practice as they want.
[Mr] T
Good work.
bump!
Thanks from the Olney FReepers.
Olney has its fun times, just not as often as Walter Reed. We do have two WWII vets that stand with us. One is a Marine who was at Iwo Jima and the other an Army Vet on the islands waiting for the invasion of Japan. He was sure glad when Truman dropped the a-bombs.
[Mr] T
Man, I sure do miss you guys. Hope all is well, keep up the eye-poking on the liberals down there...:)
10-4, ROGER WILCO, A-OKAY, and all the other affirmatives. The moonbats have been back in force the last several weeks - numbering 5.
For a number of weeks there was just one moonbat, and not a “Quacker” at that. Then two were showing up. The older guy, apparently a Navy WWII Vet, has not been seen for a while.
[Mr] T
"...apparently a Navy WWII Vet..."
But that's a bummer.
