Former US defense secretary Robert Gates lashed out Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, calling him an ungrateful ally and blaming him for diplomatically isolating Israel and hurting American interests, according to a Tuesday column. The criticism, which was revealed in a Bloomberg column by Jeffrey Goldberg, apparently peaked after Netanyahu met with US President Barack Obama last March, lecturing him on the Israeli security situation with a level of "impudence" that shocked many in the White House, including Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Gates felt that while the US had laid out "many steps" to "guarantee Israel's

The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I doubt this...I can see it coming out of Obama’s mouth...but not Gates. Not his style.
Gates thinks Israel recently became Isolated? Whew!
Unfaithful doesn’t deserve ungrateful?
“grateful” for what?
Funding and providing political support to their enemies?
Bottom line...It's really a pro Obama article...
I doubt this...I can see it coming out of Obamas mouth...but not Gates. Not his style.
I agree with you on this. The word gratitude reminds me of what Churchill said. Nations dont have friends. Nations have common interests. Gratitude implies that friendship. I assure you that whatever we did for Israel has been because we perceived common interests; meaning we did it as much for ourselves as Israel. You dont expect gratitude under those circumstances. (Actually, its a bad idea to ever expect gratitude. It might be nice if its offered, but dont expect it. That expectation will cause resentment.
Having said that, the United States relationship with Israel is in the past. Our present administration sees Israel as an impediment that must be removed at all/any cost. I believe our present administration has adopted the Arab view that the only good Israel is a dead Israel.
Robert Gates = “Whew! In the old days, they would have had me shot for incompetence, but now, I get to keep flapping my gums to prove I was incompetent.”
Every time Israel is whipped, the 0 administration expects them to say “Thank you, Sir, may I have another?”
BARACK OBAMA and HILLARY CLINTON can SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES when it comes to ISRAEL.
Them slamming Israel for being unwilling TO COMMIT SUICIDE to please them is asinine at best.
I STAND WITH ISRAEL, as do many true AMERICANS. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and that this administration will not be allowed to mistreat Israel in the UN vote this month.
Obama, gates and Hillary think Jerusalem is Saigon
I hope the PM called Gates what he is: an unmitigated fool.
Gates is a sorry sack of squid crap..... Doom on him an the socialist administration that he just left.
His words, thoughts, opinions an record are irrelevant because he is a liar with an agenda. Any honors bestowed up him are nothing more that drug store hero jack in the box BS .
.... Did I say I think he sucks ?
My opinion of that traitor.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
My understanding is that Gates criticism was of Israel, not Bibi.

IOW, intercourse Goldberg, Bloomberg, and Granny Gates.
I don’t like Gates, never did. Anyone willing to work for Obama is a rat at heart in my book. Same with Huntsman.
Good one. . .
