'Gates lashed out, called Netanyahu an ungrateful ally'
Jerusalem Post ^ | 9/5/11 | Staff

Former US defense secretary Robert Gates lashed out Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, calling him an ungrateful ally and blaming him for diplomatically isolating Israel and hurting American interests, according to a Tuesday column. The criticism, which was revealed in a Bloomberg column by Jeffrey Goldberg, apparently peaked after Netanyahu met with US President Barack Obama last March, lecturing him on the Israeli security situation with a level of "impudence" that shocked many in the White House, including Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Gates felt that while the US had laid out "many steps" to "guarantee Israel's

“grateful” for what?
Funding and providing political support to their enemies?

“I doubt this...I can see it coming out of Obama’s mouth...but not Gates. Not his style.”

I agree with you on this. The word “gratitude” reminds me of what Churchill said. “Nations don’t have friends. Nations have common interests.” Gratitude implies that friendship. I assure you that whatever we did for Israel has been because we perceived common interests; meaning we did it as much for ourselves as Israel. You don’t expect gratitude under those circumstances. (Actually, it’s a bad idea to ever expect gratitude. It might be nice if it’s offered, but don’t expect it. That expectation will cause resentment.

Having said that, the United States’ relationship with Israel is in the past. Our present administration sees Israel as an impediment that must be removed at all/any cost. I believe our present administration has adopted the Arab view that the only good Israel is a dead Israel.

Robert Gates = “Whew! In the old days, they would have had me shot for incompetence, but now, I get to keep flapping my gums to prove I was incompetent.”

Although I have some doubts if Robert Gates ever uttered the words attributed to him in this article in the Jerusalem Post, it reminds us that the Obama administration has backhanded Israel and when Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, pushes back on suicidal demands from Obama and a senior member of his administration, they whine about Israeli 'ingratitude'. How absurd. Israel has been fighting for it's life for over 50 years, has made endless, totally unappreciated concessions to the 'Palestinians' and is still in mortal danger from the 350 million hostile Arabs/Persians that surround it. I'm sure most Israelis would join us in stating that 2012 can't come soon enough to be rid of Obama and his Muslim-loving, anti-Israel administration.

Yes, Israel should be grateful to be beholden to the most anti-Israel administration ever.

Every time Israel is whipped, the 0 administration expects them to say “Thank you, Sir, may I have another?”

BARACK OBAMA and HILLARY CLINTON can SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES when it comes to ISRAEL.

Them slamming Israel for being unwilling TO COMMIT SUICIDE to please them is asinine at best.

I STAND WITH ISRAEL, as do many true AMERICANS. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and that this administration will not be allowed to mistreat Israel in the UN vote this month.
